New tool thread

The big Milwaukee tools work fine if you use the high output batteries on them. They figured out that you can’t use the 18650 based batteries with the big stuff and get long operation. That is why the low voltage tools got such a bad name in the beginning. The voltage has to be high to get the time out of those smaller cells.
Voltage is the same, it's about amp hours and amp draw. You can make big power with low voltage (as demonstrated by vehicle starters) but amps skyrocket....something about some guy named Ohm writing a law ;)

I remember reading the battery powered manufacturers were dealing with potential spikes of 400A or more on these new "high draw" 18V tools, which obviously begins to present some problems with wires and conductors

Either way I really like my Milwaukee 18V string trimmer but we don't get crazy high or wet grass here in the Southwest.

20 year old electric pressure washer suddenly bit the big one. Was having problems with the trigger sticking on, but over the course of a few minutes it went from operating normally to not producing as much pressure and the pump wouldn't shut off. Oh well, it did last for 20 years. Coincidentally, Harbor Freight 20% off coupon arrived. Don't know if I'll get 20 years out of this one, but the price is right.

Some new stuff today. Ace Hardware locations here have a 50% off sale on 4th of July and New Years. There was a ton more I was going to get but I decided I’d rather have money for the car I want rather than a whole bunch of repeat tools though some of the stuff was cool haha. I will admit it the die was not a need but I seen that and I’m like that’s just cool so for $3 I figured why not. They had a bunch of old Irwin USA stuff and things like that. This was the only Master Mechanic thing and it was dated 1997. Before Ace we had True Value but True Value around here is gone. Now if they would of had old USA vise grips i would of bought every pair but they only had an old Taiwan set and then rest was China. We went to three locations. The screw extractors are USA made as well. The grease is great stuff they stopped making the grease form and replaced it with spray this was the last one which the cashier said this doesn’t qualify since it’s on closeout but since stuff doesn’t move around here frequently I’ll go ahead and give you the 50%. They were a lot friendlier at the last location than any of the others. It was nice to have a day off so I can go shopping lol. Wish the bank and car lot was open I would of bought the ride I wanted today.

Watch it with that type of extractor, if a bold breaks because it is rusted in solid and break removing it do not use one of those unless you drill it 90% and only the threads are left otherwise it will snap leaving you in a big pile. If it broke going in because either the bolt was weak or it was over torqued then drill a hole if need be and use one of those.

And they break with out warning, you won't feel it at all, just suddenly SNAP!

So much this. Just don't use EZ Outs period.

I'm listed with machine shops and when people call me with a broken EZ Out I say sorry, find a shop with a wire EDM :(

I don't even own those type of extractors....I have a Mig Welder & a Torch which takes care of 98% of the issues I run across.

OTC filter pliers, bough them from Amazon, interestingly, they came from Bosch?! I bought the larger ones, but I didn't think they were going to be THIS big:

Needed them to get the filter off the RAM, since conventional band and cap wrenches won't fit. I was concerned that these were too big too, but I was able to get them in and get a nice grip on the can once I found an angle that worked.

I don't think Kabo puts their actual name on anything in the States. They're a Taiwanese manufacturer and not interested in final retail.

I think it'd be like seeing a Johnson Controls brand automotive battery or Warren branded motor oil

And yeah, EZ Red (and I think Mountain) have maybe been on the market the longest.

Kabo makes really nice stuff but these particular wrenches are just so-so IME.

There are certain jobs that these wrenches really accel at, Motor Mount Stand bolts on '98-'02 F-Bodies is one of them. Just finished up a oil pump replacement on a '02 Camaro SS.....Been working on these cars for 24 years & those bolts are a major PITA without the offset head on these wrenches. Thankfully the 15/13mm wrench still works.

I see that and wonder where are the rotten bolts and rust. I never see anything even close to that clean.

Some finds at Ollie’s. They had tons of the brake lubricant and single pairs of gloves. They only had very few of the radiator hose grease which I haven’t seen before so that was pretty cool. I got the plastic scraper for scraping off sticky wheel weights because it’s hard to get the residue off so hopefully this will help. Also got some Great Neck wobble extensions. Not sure of the quality. I’ve had good luck with their tools. Package dated July 2007 they had others in 2010 and 2011 but I liked this old design package better haha. Figured with age these would be Taiwan made I didn’t know they made their stuff in China by then. If they aren’t any good I’ll just throw them in my broken tools box and move on.

I was looking on ebay at some snap on and gear wrench flex head ratcheting wrenches , when I ran across these. A set of power torque wrenches with a GM part number, and marked GM Performance parts.

I took a chance on them, came in today and looks pretty decent. 72 tooth 12 point.

Set skips 8-18mm skips 9,11,16,17 mm.
Can't tell where it's made, looks Taiwan.

Time will tell if they are any good. But I only spent $55.
