New tool thread

Be careful with that friction ball 3/8" impact wobble adaptor, A socket can come off there at the speed of sound & do some damage.

I don't use wobble adaptors unless I absolutely have to, Maybe time to start investing in dedicated impact wobble sockets sets.
You must own SO stock. Next week he'll have the entire set from 8mm to 32mm and 5/16 to 1-1/4. :D

I am just kidding -- how people want to spend their $ is up to them, and there are far worse things to invest in than quality tools

He could save a lot of time if he would just buy this set instead of piecemeal...and it's over half off the regular price!!!

Yeah I have had them come off the universal joint ones before. Never this style fortunately but I agree I don’t use these unless I absolutely have too. Was going to buy the swivel sockets till I heard the price. I’ll find a different brand to buy.

Some new sockets from Lowes. Needed the 16 to fill in one of my trays at home. The 11mm 1/2 impact will fill in my rail in my cart at work. Probably won’t get used but good to have I actually have needed a 1/2 drive 7/16 deep impact once working on a Kenworth once so I figured this will work if needed and I have that 7/16 in impact too. The 16mm will be good for my Ford stuff.

When you would need a 1/2 inch dive impact 11mm?

Well I actually bought some tools for myself instead of work for a change. It is nice having a big rolling tool box in my driveway but sometimes I don’t want to dig everything out and put it away. Harbor freight just opened up in town so had to see what they had. Figured the color sockets might help my kids find what I asked them for and they didn’t have the icon deepwell 1/4” sockets or non colored Pittsburg ones. The ratchet is nice and I have never had a swivel head one before so will see how I like it before I get any more.

Don’t think I posted these on this forum yet. Finally got me some orange and green pocket screwdrivers. I feel like a king now lol 😂. It’s great having all the colors now just have to get black. I found these on eBay. Funny because after I ordered them I found my coworkers orange pocket screwdriver in the parking lot so I’ll be returning that to him on Monday as I found it on Friday after he left.

Those pocket screwdrivers are fine sometimes but the keystone tip is an issue in a lot of applications. In a past live I carried a small cabinet tip snap on screwdriver in my shirt pocket along with a few Klein cushion grip instrument screwdrivers. I'll see if I can find a link to the one on the snap on site cause I have no idea where it is in my stash of tools from back when I used them for a living.

Are you talking about something like this? I like these too I use these or my pocket pry bar if I need to do a bit more prying on stuff. I like the pocket ones for o-rings when I don’t feel like getting a pick or cleaning corrosion from connectors or something like that. Plus the free ones are cool I think lol.

Some new things from Harbor Freight. 8 inch Doyle Channellock style pliers. I haven’t seen the 8 inch ones before in Channellock brand and this was the last pair of these so I figured I’d pick them up as you use these type of pliers a lot. Two more boxes of nitrile gloves. Unfortunately missed the sale on the 7mil ones they had I think last week. Got a ball joint separator I haven’t used this style before so this will be nice to try out. Metric and Standard o-rings in my opinion there isn’t a better value than these and they are good quality too. Another little .69 box cutter knife. Two magnetic trays that were $1.99 each. Got some of the last ones that say Pittsburgh on them as they have gotten so cheap now they don’t even put the name on them 🙁. A black cup holder. No orange has been released yet so I figured since I’ve always got a drink this will be perfect and it will go with the cart just fine as the cart has black trim. And a Braun rechargeable light these things are really bright. We had them in school but it seems they were battery powered back then and not rechargeable but I could be wrong. Either way nice lights that take a lot of abuse.

Never heard of "keystone tip", so I had to google it.

  • Keystone– Also commonly referred to on the jobsite as, “flat head,” the keystone tip is a single, flat shape with tapered blade sides to maximize tool durability and withstand more torque. It is designed for use with a slotted screw head only, and while it can be used with a power driver, this isn’t commonly recommended because of the damage caused by driver slippage.
  • Cabinet– Due to their similarities, the average Joe might confuse cabinet tips with keystone. Both designs feature the flat head shape, however, cabinet tips have a straight blade profile. The tip and blade have the same width, which comes in handy when reaching into confined spaces where screws are recessed.

And what is a keystone?

A keystone is the wedge-shaped stone at the apex of a masonry arch or typically round-shaped one at the apex of a vault. In both cases it is the final piece placed during construction and locks all the stones into position, allowing the arch or vault to bear weight.

There you go. On big exposed screws it is fine but in terminal blocks or other tight spaces it doesn’t work. Keystone tip screwdrivers also commonly have a square shank or a hex at some point so you can put a wrench on them. Cabinet tips are usually round and no wider than the tip at any point.

Got my HF tool cart put together. Yellow was the only one they had in stock so it is what I got.
