New tool thread

Getting new exhaust valves?
Ya know the machine shop reco'd exactly that! He said they'll like burn out. He said he'd check them and see if they're fully seating now.

239k on the motor, but the vehicle truly is in excellent condition so it's worth a comprehensive job I'd say.

I'll probably tell him to just do a full valve job.

I'm technically a machine shop but not engine machine. I have no interest as the specialty equipment is abundant and margins seem low unless you're good enough to attract high dollar, boutique builds.

I did have to build a tiny 4-stroke in school and it did run (albeit not real well).

WorkPro 1/2" 72 tooth ratchet, pleasantly surprised.

I was looking for an inexpensive cushioned handle 1/2" ratchet to use an emergency backup to raise our anchor. The windlass has a hole for the ratchet and using it will be a lot of strokes but I'm sure it beats hand over handing the anchor setup.... I buy inexpensive tools for certain uses on the boat as the salt water makes them essentially disposable after a use now matter how well you try and clean them.

Long story short, I am very, very impressed w/ this $15 ratchet; beautiful chrome finish, the non chrome parts all appear well made, direction lever is metal, comfortable handle (better be if I ever have to pull in 100' of rope and chain at 6" per ratchet swing), etc. Almost hate to put it on the boat. Pic after a heavy coating of BoeShield and about to be ziplocked.

Putting together my son's first tool set. A mixture of Pittsburgh, Quinn, Doyle, Hyper tough. Not pictured are USA craftsman sockets I bought mid 2000s, hex keys, combination level. All will go into a few Dewalt TStak boxes. He's been busy working on vintage computers, and recently he enjoyed helping his sister put up some floating shelves, and this might encourage him for more tasks around the house.

USA-made Cornwell 1/4”-1” angle wrench set. Awesome wrenches. Cornwell creeper too. View attachment 234576View attachment 234575

I have a set of Cornwell angle wrenches that I inherited from my Grandfather, 1/4" to 1-1/2". A few of the smallest sizes got lost & grandpa replaced them with a couple Craftsman & a Mac. He retired in 1983 & did the bulk of his tool buying in the 60's & 70's.

I use them often on A/C & Hydraulic fittings, Most impressive is the satchel they came in.....At least 40 years old.

Really cool, thanks for sharing. The Cornwell rep broke-up a set similar to yours when I bought, I didn’t want anything over 1”. It was a 19 piece set, originally, wanting to say. I really like the soft square angle of the handles, appears the design hasn’t changed other than high polish finish.

The wrenches are Icon S-wrenches in both fractional and metric. The angle wrenches are Tekton 30/60 in fractional 1/4 to 1-1/4". FB MP deal at $200 for all wrenches.

I also stopped into HF and got the Icon 1/2" angle TW. I initially swore I'd never spend $350 on Icon digital, but it seems like it's decent. I wasn't willing to pay new SnapOn and not always excited about used TWs on ebay. I watched this vid and if the guy is credible, the Icon is ok.

I've believed this guy on the split beams and Icon always does well.....so he's either a schill or Icon is legit.

Treated myself to some new tools today since I got a raise at work on Monday per my request. My coworker has this air hammer and it’s a beast. It goes on sale next month but dealer was like just go ahead and take it for that price and I’ll bring you the rest of the kit when it arrives September 1st. Sounds good to me because this air hammer is a beast and I hate having to borrow stuff so I wanted to treat myself to something new. I hardly ever buy anything off the Mac Truck mainly because he doesn’t show up but like every 2 weeks but to be fair he has a lot of health problems so I’ve forgiven him for his absence. He also warrantied my pawn shop 10mm socket that was cracked lol.

Then a Tekton 3/8 breaker bar. Much better built than the Harbor Freight ones. I have broken my Harbor Freight one 4 times so I’m tired of getting it replaced. Also picked up a 33mm and 34mm deep socket from them too because those are the only two not in my set of axle nut sockets and my friend wants me to do some work to his GMC which I’m pretty sure is a 33 or 34mm axle nut. I have a few Tekton things but not many. I normally buy Capri but wanted to put Tekton to the everyday use to see how it holds up.

Picked up a Milwaukee Fuel Surge 1/4 Impact Hex driver today. The chuck on my old Milwaukee non-Fuel brushless 1/4 Driver exploded and I needed a replacement in a pinch, and this one came with a free 5aH battery, so I went with it. I don't think it hits as hard as my old one, likely on account of the hydraulic drive but that may be a good thing for reassembly, considering I mostly use it for small fasteners.
