New tool thread

Tekton flare nut crows feet.
I’ve been impressed with the other Tekton made in USA tools I’ve had and I like the direction the company is going. Plus the storage solution they provide is perfect.

First impressions are good. I was going to get the motion pro version but the reviews were terrible.

Only thing I don’t care for on this one is the bits seem to be proprietary. Would be very handy if it just took standard 1/4 bits.

A few weeks ago I received 2 cash birthday gifts. So I splurged on some Knipex tools. The 11"nippers were the bargain of the bunch, at $27 from Amazon. The 8.5" bolt cutters were the highest price of the bunch, at $55.75 from Zoro, with a 20% off coupon code.
From left to right:
7.5" combination needle nose
8" long needle nose
8.5" high leverage bolt cutters
10" high leverage angled head cutters
11" end nippers

Two new 30mm SK USA wrenches with the black industrial finish. Paid $7 each on harry Epstein because they are rusty. 30mm open end wrench is required for Tundra alignments and tie rod end replacements as it is the size on the jam nuts. For $14 I can scrub the rust off really good. I was going to get one from Snap-on but it was way too expensive.

One piece of advice, paint at least part of each one with a high visibility spray paint. Industrial finish tools tend to blend into the background if you leave them sit somewhere. I did that to my industrial finish wrenches after I temporarily misplaced a few.

I've got a set of the red Wrights. They're just powdercoated, though, and it kinda affects fit. Still, they stand out.

If one wants durability, I reco nail polish. Not joking, the stuff is tough. All the better if the shop guys make fun of you for it -- the point is that everyone KNOWS the tools with nail polish are YOURS.

How much?? Looks nice.
I paid about $230 on ebay. Was allegedly used but if they'd sold it as new I totally would have believed it.

They're $410 on the website right now.

Used prices are all over the board. I was patient and watched ebay until something came up that I wanted at a price I deemed a "good" deal

I like the physical layout of this one more than the OTC, but ultimately they both do the same thing.

There's also an older black SnapOn version but I wanted the newer red. @clinebarger might know if there were any differences (re: EEPV509)

I ordered 4 sockets from Napa online. Quick shipping for sure. Gotta have an extra 10mm, then the 24mm 3/8 is great for Toyota transmission/transfer case check plugs and fill plugs on the more compact cars. 24mm 1/2 chrome is great for taking the plugs out on some too but it it’s better to be chrome for extra room because the impact rubs on some. And the 1-3/16 socket because it’s the same as 30mm for the axle nuts and it was cheaper than the 30mm lol. It arrived covered in dust. Must of sat for awhile. I ordered a 30mm from Snap-on but as usual driver shows up maybe once a month now again so it’s kinda useless when I needed it like weeks ago lol. I’ll still take his because it’s impact but I can’t keep borrowing them because my other one cracked and it was a no name so I just wanted to get this one. So I had to get this one to last till then. He had the 39mm on the truck when I ordered them so at least I got that one. Carlyle are great tools but expensive. The chrome sockets generally are reasonably priced but everything else way expensive lol. The sockets and other tools hold up very well though. There is a few I use everyday.

I ordered the CTA socket for Subaru head bolts. In the meantime I found that a Tekton 1/2" dr impact socket (12pt of course) paired with the Tekton "mini" extension SHA21101 works great.

Note the extension looks like a reducer but it's literally a 1/2" dr male stacked on a 1/2" dr female to be as short as possible.

My Tekton/Tekton combo is almost exactly 2.400" while the specialty socket is 2.500". So, the combo is arguably better because you gain (lose) ~3/32" and it still cleared the valvetrain on an '11 EJ25 for me

SnapOn also makes a socket and it's surprisingly affordable at ~$25 but my SnapOn guy was on vacation last week.

With my Tekton/Tekton combo I was able to pull the heads with engine in situ (although I did elevate it a bit) no problem.
