New tool thread

Where did you find the batteries for that price?
It was a crazy deal through Tooltopia that @The Critic turned me on to: buy one at $99, get one free and free shipping.

They show OOS now. I kinda think it was a website glitch and it was supposed to be a free 5.0 when you buy a more expensive tool or maybe only a kit. Not sure, but the website allowed it and they honored it.

I don't see things getting better for the next ~5 years so now I'm set for awhile. I use the big M12 batts exhaustively in certain drills for production work and my underhood light.

I'll send them off to TTL Monday. Any idea who made these for Matco?

Coworker got me a replacement drill bit for the one he broke. It was too small to be covered under warranty so he had to buy a new one. Only $13 though. So I’m happy he’s happy and we are good. Everyone in the shop uses my $300 drill bits because they work so good. This one got bound up in a spare tire wind up when he was trying to drill rivets out for replacement. I wish all of them had a warranty though.

You can get the same drill bits from Astro Pneumatic now. Matco's exclusive rights to the product recently ran out.

It is not just the design but the steel, the Astro may be okay but who makes it for them and what steel are they. I have some really good Guhring drills that cost a small fortune and only used in a drill press but I also have Viking M35 and M42 and Chicago Latrobe HSS, for replacements for these when they break I get them from the wood working store, they are good bits and stay sharp, run true and dead straight, these are the M42, in fact I need to place and order this weekend.

True, but Astro said they were supplying to Matco. Astro supplied a number of Matco’s exclusive tools.

Some new Bondus stuff.

I’ve cut down so many Allen keys over the years I don’t know why I haven’t bought them sooner.

I’ve had the SAE set of ball end drivers for years and used to use them a lot when I was Gunsmithing. Now working on motorcycles mostly I think the metric set will be handy.

Also picked up a OEM Tools vacuum coolant filler for a upcoming drain and fill.

So those are bondhus extra short on one end, long on the other? Model #? I need an 8mm like that, long as possible on the long end, short as possible on the other…

*New to me tools* lol. Me and dad went to the Pulaski/Dublin Flea Market today at the Dublin Fairgrounds in Dublin Virginia right next to Pulaski County. My coworker told me about it. We missed Hillsville this year so we decided to head over to this one. Pulaski County neighbors Montgomery County which is the county I work in. How did I do for $66 total for all the tools? I’d say I got a pretty good deal especially since all the sockets in the bottom of the metal rusty box are Circle K Craftsman sockers with a date code of 1939-51 so those right there alone are worth the $40 I gave for that box. The box of Craftsman USA, Mac and a few other brands sockets was $20 and he threw in two wrenches a Snap-on from 1955 and a Craftsman USA Professional that I wanted. I love it when old guys have tools for sale lol. I was going to come home with two jacks for a Model T Ford and one for a Model A Ford but we could not come close to a price on those.

The pocket screwdrivers I got at a different place. They are handy you always need them. Me and dad really had a good time. Mom is away on a trip to Williamsburg Virginia with her friends just as a trip they wanted to do so me and dad took advantage.

I also picked up some baseball gloves there for my collection, several baseball hats, license plates and a cool hat from Homer Cox Ford that is actually the Ford Dealership that my dealership purchased when we wanted a Ford franchise because Homer wanted to retire but didn’t want to leave the New River Valley without a Ford dealership. But that deal was finalized before I was even born lol. Homer Cox passed away in 2004, two years after I was born, but sold his dealership to us in 1995 but we let him have it open along with his son till it closed in 2004 at his death. Him and the owner of my dealership were good friends. The hat is just something cool for me to have. I’m happy with the $8 I gave for the hat just to have that story to go with it.

Wanna kick down with the FI pocket screwdriver? Looks pretty cool to me. I would keep it or give it to my BIL for his '62 Fuelie...

More Milton stuff. Milton S-516 tire inflator gauge. Gauge was off from the factory but it can be easily calibrated.
Only downside of the tool is that tire pressure can't be checked with the air supply disconnected. Upside is the flow-through nozzle which can double as a air gun.

Unscrew the cap to remove the gauge cartridge, remove set screw from cartridge to access calibration screw. Several adjustments got it within 1 PSI of my Milton digital gauge.

Mini prybars. Proper tool for the proper job. Messed up a bunch of flathead screwdrivers using them as prybars.

Wish I would have had these when I started cutting the foam for my “commonly used measurement tool” drawer. This is the best I could come up with for the room I have left:

I’ll give it a few days before I cut the foam to see if I can figure out a layout I like better.

2 things: Got too jealous of all those fancy pants K-N-Pix pliers, so I got one on the Amazon sale:

Then I decided to pay for the priceless tool BITOG and made a chintzy donation. The value here is beyond words. I've made a few valuable friends and gleaned tons of KSAs (Silicon Valley speak for "Knowledge Skills and Abilities"). A few others think I'm an idiot so there's that... I had seen the word "Donation" before but thought maybe you had to be a member of some secret club or something. Saw it again and searched for the Donation button.
