I have had a CBX,2 Suzuki 1100's and a 1000,Honda VFR,Kaw Z's and 2 ZRX's,Ducati Monster and most recently a Triumph Speed Triple. The Triumph and the Duck had adequate torque, but the rest just had the usual high RPM rush. I love a torquey motor. I just got tired of scaring myself silly on those hotrods......I still have the Corvette for when I'm feeling a bit frisky!

So, now your trying to belittle the guy because he's trying to enjoy his brand of bike for his own reasons? I guess you just can't stand it when everyone doesn't like what you like. Why is there always someone waiting to pee on someone else's parade?.,,

Why do you have to turn everything into a this brand vs that brand argument? That's not what I was doing at all. Did you even see me mention any brands? All I was saying is it's silly to choose one motorcycle over another based on fuel economy....that's like choosing one scooter over another solely because it gets 105 MPG and the other only gets 100 MPG....what about reliability, price, performance, comfort, etc? To me, those are all more important aspects than fuel economy....if I'm riding a motorcycle I don't care whether it gets 40, 50, or 60 MPG....I do care how much it costs, how reliable it is, how well it performs, how comfortable it is, etc....get the picture?

It was something that made me get my Triumph Speedmaster over the Harley V Rod I was looking at. I paid cash for mine, but looked at long term cost. Bang vs Buck. I get 54mpg average on the backroads after putting better exhaust and tune in the ecm. Am I too broke to own a bike?

Only you know that...I was just making the point that if gas mileage is a major factor when choosing a bike, considering that ALL motorcycles are easy on gas, maybe you should consider not spending the money on a motocycle at all...

All bikes are easy on gas? Funny since I have seen some that get worse than my car with half the engine displacement.

I just do not see the reason I need to buy something that is harder on my pocket book than it needs to be. I can go get a 28 mile per gallon V max for 19k that can go 3x the speed limit...which I cannot legally do. Or I can spend 8k on a Triumph that goes 2x the speed limit but gets 54mpg and saves me hundreds on insurance but its still a nice bike to ride. Guess for my age I am an old timer in thinking since I look for value in a product.

We guys who like cruisers generally like to well...cruise. We don't require something with ridiculous power. If we twist the throttle and it sets us back....good enough.

I own a cruiser too, but there's nothing wrong with having your cake and eating it too. You may think of your bike as more utilitarian, which is fine too. Mine is purely a toy and I knew going in that every penny I spend on this bike is for fun only. Other's buy them to ride to work every day to save gas. I rarely ride mine to work. When I ride it's to head out with other riders for a day of leisure. No biggie, everyone's got their reasons for what they own...I hope you enjoy your ride!

I know what you mean...I also owned a CBX and also a Kaw Z-1 900 and Kaw 500 triple...none had any low end power, but screamed at high RPMs and were chain drives....I could never go back to riding anything like that again...then I owned a Honda V-65 Magna and then a V-Max...both V-4s and both had power right off idle all the way to redline...which was like 10 grand....absolutely loved the power delivery of the V-4s, but neither bike was very comfortable on the highway, which is why I moved up to the M109R....gobs of low end grunt, revs higher than most big v-twins (7500 RPM) so it makes more HP, and yet is decile and easy to ride at slow speeds, and it's comfortable on the highway....it doesn't get good gas mileage though, but a lot of that is because I can't resist twisting the grip...all that torque is so much fun!

I bet that Suzy does have big time torque everywhere. I forgot that you had one of those bad boys. I rode a Yam 1600 and it was pathetic...then rode a VTX 1800 Honda -wow!-that was more like it! I am an old geezer now so I seldom run over 90mph (on my 1150 RT Beemer) and on the hogs,50 suits me just fine. I can almost doze off when listening to that lazy, steady V-Twin drumbeat.

The VTX actually comes on a bit sooner in the RPM range than the 109...it's longer stroke engine peaks on torque at about 3K RPM, whereas the 109 peaks at around 4K...the biggest difference between these two is in the upper RPMs...the X hits the rev limiter at around 5200-5300 and 9 doesn't redline until 7500...that extra 2K makes a world of difference when these bikes are side by side running through the gears....both bikes are a hoot to ride though...and both will loaf along nicely at 45 or 50 all day long...that is if you can resist twisting the grip....
