excellent car. be sure the timing belt/water pump has been serviced, if not do it asap.

Why did you not start the thread when you started looking for the car? We would have enjoyed your search process very much. You deprived us the joy of your daily log!

I wonder if anybody would notice my reply here :-)

Looking for the car...had its highs and more lows. Craigslist is a trip, its exhausting. I knew this morning while sat in the car with its owner at the time, that I was going to buy it and not obsess over a hundred dollars here or there....I just knew that id found the car. Yes, I paid a little more than I thought I would and I thought its worth, but when you know, you know. Ive been around enough to know that cars this genuine and this clean, being sold by someone so genuine that has changed the oil, has the intelligence to fit such a thing as a Fumoto valve, are really not so common, especially, it seems, in south Florida, land of many scammers.

so, yes, I could have started telling you all of my 'looking for a car" woes, but the looking itself took enough energy in itself!

The only down side is that there is no hard, documented history that the timing belt has ever been changed so that is a priority and was definitely not a reason to not buy. I remember my Fathers words, way back in England.." dont take someones word that it has been changed, when you buy the car, know that you are gonna do it anyway" I had a budget of 5K so even with the parts (genuine Honda) im still well inside that.

We had little as a family when I was growing up so to be able to ride in the machine with the leather seats, remote locks, AC, a sunroof, nice power and Honda sweetness, im VERY pleased, above all, its paid for.

Whats the easiest way to post pics?

I appreciate you all contributing, I thank you for your words, I know I can be a little blunt and outspoken often, im def' off the wall and thought strange by some but hey...im just Human! haha

Two questions:

At what point do we switch over to a high Mileage oil??..if I did, it would be M1, prob 10W30.

Also, whats best for the MT? is thicker better? this is where ill be using Amsoil, they recommend Manual Synchromesh Transmission Fluid 5W-30 (MTFQT) any opinions on this area?

great point, thank you!

Posting pix is easy...after uploading to your 'net-host service, add the photo's url like this

Kitacam's oil was changed every 5k with Shell dino 5w-30 (by Curly Moe and Larry here in SoFLA) and as I said the dealer changed it to PYB so I went with PP (the recommended 5w-30 @ 100k miles, 3k after I bought it) to stay in the chemistry's family since PYB seemed to be working nicely and I conservatively play it safe when it comes to changing what goes into my cars...

Castrol must have a syn equivalent of the recommended dino...

That is a nice car...and 136K is not a big deal if it was maintained. My 1996 Accord V6 is ticking along nicely with its new owner (still trying to figure out why I sold it...). I sold it with only 126K on the clock...ran like new (they jumped at the sale when I showed them the stack of maintenance receipts. Plus, they had to listen to my "never-ending story" about the car's history...by rights I should have knocked off a thousand just for putting them through that). Your 6th generation (98-02) is a nicer car than the previous generation (94-97). Honda improved the car's room, comfort, handling and power...I've driven them and they are very nice. The biggest problem with them seemed to be the automatic transmissions but that won't be a problem for you. My only word of advice regarding fluids is stick to the Honda power steering fluid. It is a different animal and their system is finicky...other fluids can be problematic. It's not overly expensive at a dealership...about $7-$8 for a 12 oz. bottle which would completely fill the reservoir in my '96. I'd advise emptying the reservoir annually with a turkey baster and refilling with a bottle of the Honda stuff...mine never had a problem.

Congratulations...you picked a winner there.

thank you!

My wife runs the 94 Accord EX 5MT, great, great car, I think they have a slightly sportier look and I guess ill pick up on the improvements as I drive this new one, driving it home on the turnpike, it drove beautifully, very smooth, quiet, I love the way they handle. Steering seemed to be very responsive, good power. I had initially given up on this generation because of the auto tranny, and finding a 5MT was proving very hard...same old thing, dont be in a hurry, take time and the right car will come along.

I love the leather interior, im happy that its the EX, better to have the ABS and discs all-round, ive always got a kick out of a sunroof too!

As you said, im gonna stick with the Honda p/s fluid. Amsoil in the MT, engine, not sure yet.

Friend had one of those well into the 300,000 range on nothing but the cheapest oil. The interior more or less fell apart from use before the powertrain. That is classic Honda there, better built than newer ones.

Wonderful love the 5mt!!!

I still have lots of love for Honda as they offer manual transmissions, decent all around cars and decent reliability.
