New STP S8A metal end caps ?

The 'new' STP XL uses metal endcaps and is made by a Korean manufacturer. Be overkill imo for 3-5k miles oci.

The older blue STP you reference made by Champ has a few metal endcap applications like the 6607 shown your one yt. The S2808 also uses metal endcaps.

The STP S8A however is an ecore filter with combo valve for bypass and fiber like endcaps. Might be ok for 3-5k mi oci though. Your call.

I was looking for a consensus on them. I thought they were all being made by the daewhu Korean company. Good info thx..

AZ is less than a mile from me, and there's been some question as to who is making the blue can STP now, thought I'd check. I can say definitely that in this area Champ /(FramF) is still making them and most applications are ecore including the queried S8A. I checked many applications (including S3614 mentioned later) just to see if there was any differences in manufacturer and there isn't. And saw some manufacturer dates as recent as late January.

That said, there is a bitog member that lives in western part of the US, Idaho to be specific, that posted pics of a blue STP S3614 back in December. That application clearly looks to be a M&H/Puro made in the US, filter. Looks the same as the L10241, now the red series. It would have metal endcaps as opposed to the Champ made ecore.

Just speculating, but 'maybe' AZ/STP is using a different manufacturer depending on the geographic location of the stores. But again, here STP is still Champ made. For the unfamiliar, the auxiliary baseplate is tell tale sign of ecore and is what's shown on the AZ website in these parts.

Most of the new blue can STP's are being made by Purolator now. They used to be Fram ecores in most sizes, with some exceptions.

and so is the S8316, which also had a silicone ADBV, at least when Fram/Champ was making them. I hope Purolator will keep making an S8316 for Autozone!

What's surprising is no S7317; they consolidate with the shorty S6607. However, they do still make a separate S3600 (which could theoretically be consolidated with the 3614)

As the current blue STP made by Champ is basically nothing more than a jobber/quick lube tier (Fram Core/Firestone Lube) filter and the 7317 is downsized and consolidated as standard practice there, unsurprising to me. Been that way for quite some time with STP and why, when AZ had rare ~$10 oil/filter MC5k/STP filter promo some years ago, I chose to upsize to the S2808, the 3593a equivalent, rather than downsize.

But again, at AZ's around here no Puro made STP's are to found including Champ STP manufacture dates as recent as last month. That said, it's possible a change is coming, if slowly.
