New STP Max Performance S7317ML (Made in Vietnam) Cut Open

I stopped by AZ lastnight and looked at the two new STP filters for a couple of my vehicles. The 9972 Toyota filter said Made in Mexico. Looked very similar to a Fram Endurance, better glue. The other (22500 equivalent) said Made in USA and looked very "Champ" like. I thought they were all going to be PGI, but maybe like their extended filters, they are using several manufacturers?

The USA is probably a left over. . Just go to Oreilly or Advance Auto if you want the PGI models.

Whip City Wrencher did a comparison recently of the Fram Endurance vs Carquest EP. The Carquest filter demolished the Fram Endurance.

I wouldn't say it demolished the Endurance. That Endurance actually had a pretty well stamped leaf spring, and was made the 48th day of 2025 ... probably before the leaf stamping machine went haywire, lol.

Recently saw one at my local AutoZone. It was a champ labs made filter (3600 size) dated January 2026 with a louvered core

I almost bought it to cut and paste here but I didn’t want to waste $12 on that

I just bought a dozen of these filters online. If I get them.and they Champ Labs they going straight back to Autozone. I have watched all the cut open videos out there and this filter is probably the best made. Its a matter of price. At $16 for Carquest EP I was like...nope...but at under 10 with discount Im there.

They used to be made by Champion Labs. And there are still lots of them left in stock AFAIK. Even though they have updated the design on their website, 7317ML is the only one I found in store that's been updated.
Right now, if u want the Full-synthetic Premium Guard-style filter, the only option is Advanced auto part's Carquest EP, but it's a bit pricy.
If u do not care about "full synthetic media", STP, STP XL, Carquest Premium, Micogard Select, etc. are all Premium Guard style.

The new STP MP is a Premium Guard product like the one you opened in this thread and full synthetic just like the Carquest EP. ... or maybe you meant in the quote above.. if Johnny couldn't find the PG made STP synthetic.. then the only OTHER one was the Carquest EP?
