This I could not agree with more. It's one of the many reasons I own 6 Glock's. Simple is always better. Especially in high stress, dangerous situations. For all these people who tout how "dangerous" Glock's are because they don't have a bunch of extra safeties, I can point to far more cases where those safeties cost people their lives. Fumbling with a bunch of buttons and levers they wouldn't have had to if they weren't there. As I always say, show me a shooter that "needs" a safety, and I'll show you someone I don't want to be near when they're handling a weapon.

I disagree....I started out with a Browning HP 40 years ago...so all of my handguns have a manual safety because it is built in my muscle memory. I don't even think about clicking the safety off while drawing. So, I keep the same system as close as possible with all of my semi auto pistols. That said...my edc is a jframe anyway.

I agree with Doog. Safing and un-safing a weapon should be something you don't even remember doing, but it's done every time if you train for it. Now, as for a TS getting you killed under stress, I'll never believe that. It's a lack of situational awareness that will get you killed.

Most folks will not train to that level though. I'm a full time firearms instructor and see it everyday. People almost always [censored] up their manual safety. Rob Pincus is considered one of the best instructors in the world. He has had a offer for anyone to bring a 1911 to one of his 2 day CFS classes and if they can make it through the entire class with out the gun jamming or screwing up their safety he would reimburse class tuition and pay for all of the students ammo. This has been going on for years and to this day not a single person has been able to complete this challenge.
Also the safety on many small CCW guns like the Shield are extremely hard to disengage quickly. The safety is nothing more then a small tab that is nearly flush with the frame giving almost no purchase to flip on and off unlike a 1911 safety. They are a flat out retarded design that will get you killed.
For almost all people who carry a gun daily, a manual safety is a very, VERY bad idea!

I fail to see the problem. It is very simple, DON"T USE the safety....on some guns, such as the Shield, you don't even know it's there. It is nearly impossible to engage it accidentally. (I say "nearly" because an idiot can screw anything up- but if they are an idiot, they shouldn't have a gun in the first place...)

The Rob Pincus Challenge

I don't like the safety on my Shield. It just doesn't feel right and not easy to use. So just leave it off safe.

Had read a story something about a retired cop became a gun instructor and worked with students on proper use of the safety. Came one night at home, woke to an intruder in the home with a gun. He grabbed his to use to beat the intruder, but as he pulled the trigger, yup... his instinct didn't home in to take the safety off, pulled the trigger, nothing, then the intruder got off a shot. He was shot but lived. The intruder took off. Stated when the heat of the moment came, after years of conditioning himself to use the safety by instinct, all it takes is that one time and that quick moment and its over. If I remember he was using one of his 1911s he been shooting for years.

He may have been "shooting for years". So have I. So have many people. But how long was he shooting AT PEOPLE? Just a few seconds, and that didn't go so well. All it takes is a single [censored] up to put you in the grave. He was lucky. Safeties have no place on a defensive weapon. I don't care how much you "train" with it.

Well, we finally found SOMETHING we can agree on.

+1 Nobody is telling you that you have to use the safety, if it's a concern for you then don't use it.

Those who have a Shield know it's as good as it gets, perfect weight and very accurate. This one's my new favorite "open carry" pistol. I liked this one so much the wife says I can get the shield 45 when it goes on sale, I can't wait

You'll like it even more with the Apex trigger kit, makes an already great striker fired gun even better.

'Merica! Better go buy one today!

I've put over 1,000 rounds through mine of various quality ammo and I have not had a single jam - not even a stovepipe. These guns eat it all. I was at the shooting range with a buddy and his SCCY 9mm failed to fire the same 9mm round twice. I loaded it in mine and it went bang when I pulled the trigger. Enjoy.

Couple hundred more rounds and still no FTF or FTE (more 115gr & 124gr factory & reloads).
I haven't polished the feed ramp yet - getting to wonder if necessary. Anyone polish the ramp?
Haven't shot any HPs/HD rounds yet.

Sooner or later you will find something in HP, that it doesn't particularly care for. A Google search may even pinpoint a few questionable brands to avoid, other than many steel-cased.

I had one. It was reliable. I didn't much care for it otherwise. It is too big in my opinion, and I would have preferred for the grip to be shorter, like a Glock 43. Probably would have required a 6 rd mag, which is perfectly fine for me. I sold it and bought the G42 first and then the G43 second, which is perfect. Absolutely perfect in my opinion.

Yea I also felt the shield too big. A very small difference in weight and outside dimensions makes a hue difference in carryability.

I am sure you will like shooting it. So they still have the waiting period in Cali?
