Was at Walmart killing time while my girls were at gymnastics. Stocked up on penzoil ultra while I was there and wanted to stock up on filters for my truck. Saw the new Purloators and opened them up to look inside out of curiosity. I saw some debris around the gasket on several of these filters that make me question the QC… I remembered to take some pictures to show here later on, so didn’t include all of them. But pretty much this: every single one I opened to inspect had some kind of debris around the gasket.

I’m sure I could’ve cleaned this up before installing if I’d chosen to buy this filter. But it makes me cautious around anything M+ H associated, or purolator.

P.S. — the mobile 1 ep filters are made in South Korea now, I saw someone remark this in another thread but can’t find it to reply back. The quality and feel of the filter is much better than the one I have on my truck right now. But going to definitely switch over to Microgard Select for next oci in June.

Pics below, thoughts if I’m just being to picky here or of you’d also be concerned with using these.

Hate to see M+H making filters and lacking QC, amongst other things. I really wish they would take a page out of premium guard’s book and use a plastic seal around the top. I’ve noticed this same thing with some of my WIX filters I have stashed.

I've got two Mobil 1 filters ready for use. How can you tell who the manufacturer is? It could be my crappy eyesight, but I looked at both filters and can't find any mention of who it was. I bought them several months back at Walmart and the date of manufacture on both filters is 2021.

More than likely they were made by Champion Laboratories; I’m still new to this site, but from what I gathered it’s not a favorite at the moment. Could be wrong though about Champs popularity.

I still think they’re made by the same company but just moved their operations to S. Korea for whatever reason.

Whatever the jazz is on the gasket I can live with since it is probably just cardboard shavings from the box or packing facility....
Fwiw, that's what it looks like to me too. Next time in WM I'm going to check the 7317 and a couple others to see if anything similar visible. If so, I'll give a more detailed description of the material. If none found, I'll report that too. Seeing as OP says not buying/using one anyway, really a moot point imo.

As for M1 manufacturer, most recent M1 before current PG made not by made by M&H Puro. Champ Labs was prior to that, but it's been a while since then.

As speculated the little slivers seen are from the box. The box uses small lengthwise perforations on the folds. Depending on where
located, will be either white or blue. Many of the filters I looked at had little or none, some had more. But either way, easily removed before installation. Second pic not the best, but if you look closely can see a small blue sliver from a perforation.

Thanks for the insights, still learning about filters since most of my life I was told Napa Gold and/ WIX with Mobil 1 oil.

Glad to know it’s non-metallic. Yea, I have seen packaging material on others.

However, I’d still say no to these LXs. The media is synthetic blend. For the same price, I can get an all-synthetic filter.

Which full synthetic media oil filters are less than $8.47? This particular model has two ply media, which might be to get the higher capacity, or better filtration.
Will never know as Purolator has clamped down on providing information.
I would buy them if didn’t already have a box full of unused oil filters of various kinds. Seems pretty good in this day and age.
