New (old) Ranger....

My brother got his Ranger today. Its a 1992 with the twin spark plug 2.3 4 cylinder and the Mazda manual 5 speed. It drives well as far as I can tell, only issue is a rough idle...they are planning on cleaning the throttle body in a month or so though. Ill post pics tomorrow after she gets cleaned up a little, she isn't a looker but there is room for improvement as far as getting some of the grime and dirt off. After looking at the maintenance records it looks like the last oil change was 3,800 miles ago so she is due for a change. Planning on using a synthetic blend high mileage 10w30 and a Fram Ultra (the filter will be used for 3 OCI's). Oh, and the magic number is 338,000 miles. Will post pics tomorrow!

They're going to keep clean the throttle body in a month or so, why so quickly ???

He wants to do the work with the P/O, who is going out of town this morning for a vacation.

Sounds like P/O wasn't much on service, cleaning TB is simple...

Unless it's maybe idling too slowly, rarely does cleaning a TB smooth out idle... Usually it's something like a failing plug wire, dirty injector, vacuum leak etc...

If only you knew, the PO was meticulous with maintenance. He even recorded every fill up since he got it in 1992. He has been meaning to clean it out, just hasn't had the time.
