Got a case of havoline DS 5w30 cheap and that will probably be the next fill for the Honda. I need oci recomendations. I drive daily, 110 mile round trip to work + running around on weekend I can put 3k miles a month on this car. 90% of the miles is on the interstate at 75 mph, the rest is in town, though very little stop and go. Summer time heat is in excess of 100* daily. It runs perfectly with 195k on the clock. I have a bunch of pure one oversized filters, unless I dig back into my wix stash. Owners manual states a normal operation of 7500 miles with a filter change every other oil change...impossible for me as I usually go 6-7k with a filter change every time I change oil. Any recomendations?

7500 miles for the oil, as the manual says.

I would change the filter every other change, BUT: I'd use an extended performance filter like the Bosch Distance Plus or a similar series.

I would NOT use a basic filter type for two changes though. I think that is too risky.

If you insist on changing the filter with every change, there is a flock of filters that will do the job. If you have a filter stash, use it up.

Havoline is good stuff. I'm thinking about running it my next OCI. Use your Pure One for two 5k changes or 1 7500 change. I've used P1's for 10k before and they have worked out fine.

If you must do short OCI's then go to Menards and get some cheap Quaker State filters to do the job.

Keep doing what you're doing, it's working well:
-follow manufacturer's recommended OCI
-change filter at each OC
-buy brand name oils on sale

Your application and driving requirements are relatively easy on the oil so this routine will serve you well.

Considering the driving profile which is excellent for the oil and filter., I would do the 7,500 on oil/per manual and pick a good filter like WIX/NAPA Gold or PureOne for the 15K filter change.

I have 1 used oil analysis from blackstone and that was a couple years ago using PP. It showed the oil was still in great shape at 7k. I still find it hard to believe a GP II base oil can go that far. I guess it can as the previous owners (my folks) always got me to take it in for service when the light would come on. I watched the tech at the Honda store pour in a many bottle of Castro GTX 5w30. Not my favorite oil now but back then it was between M1 and Castrol!
