Neat! That worked!

My 'code' was a date and time stamp, which I assume is manufacture date. Just need to know what date/time the new formulation started filling bottles on!

LOL! Except that it does not get better with age. That's one thing I can't understand about people building up huge oil stashes...

I picked up 5 bottles today, at Walmart.
The plainly visible code on the back label is 10111C08A 5590.
I don't have a UV lamp, so could not check for a stealth code.

Ah, the 10111C08A 5590! It is excellent with the white meats or a stuffed haddock fillet. Should be served mildly chilled but not ice cold. I suggest one finish the meal with a bread pudding and fine liqueur such as Drambuie.

Seriously, I have come to believe the issue with some people's oil stashes is a fear that the manufacturer is going to cheapen the formulation and somehow weaken the product. Look how some BITOG'ers still nearly worship the old green GC, feeling the new amber is not up to the former's quality.

That and $1/qt name brand sythetic on clearance is hard to resist.

10111 = 10th of January, 2011 ?

Never understood that myself. I only buy oil when it's time to change it.

Rather pointless to have a large stash.

IIRC, for 10111C08A => 101 11 C 08 A:

101 = Beaumont TX plant (at least where it used to be made)
11 = Year (2011)
C = March (Jan = A, Feb = B, up to M with"I" omitted for clarity)
08 = Day of the month
A = not sure about this one.

HTH

paul...

I just saw today, M1 0w40 is now SN along with its standard repertoire of Euro specs.

I discovered by accident that the date code (above the printed label on the back of the bottle) is visible in incandescent light, if you hold at just the right angle under the bulb. It will show up as shiny letters and digits.

My 5 quarts, manufactured in March 2011, was still SM
