So your Camry was older than 2001?
All cars have a differential, FWD or RWD, its just a matter of whether or not the diff has its own fluid it bathes in. There is no separate differential case on Camrys newer than 2001. On the old A series transmission, the differential housing had it own transmission fluid that was housed separately from the rest of the transmission.
The newer U series transmission is a complete all in one transaxle like most transmissions. The differential is PART of the transmission. It is all in the same case with the same fluid flowing through it. You can't fill the "transmission" part and "differential" part with different fluids. All fluid for the entire transaxle (transmission assembly) is added through the dipstick. You don't need to worry about anything related to the differential. It is simply a part of the transmission.
I asked if my local Grease Monkey would put in Amsoil Severe Gear into a RWD differential on my car, and they said they have to use their own diff fluid "for warranty purposes", which is crazy since there really isn't a warranty they could apply, as in if you lose your rear end they aren't going to take the blame for their fluid type they used anyway.
So I changed it myself, and it was hard to reach the top fill oil to get new Amsoil in there, would have been nice to use their lift and have them do it. But they were morons.
