I drove by a Jiffy Lube yesterday in Newington CT and they had one of the technicians standing near the street holding up a sign that said "no waiting". He must have picked the short straw on a slow day.

I think that is in Wethersfield; I grew up within eye shot of that one.
The manager years ago said they didn't have to check the differential on my 69 Riviera because it is FWD; i told him it wasn't and he insisted it was. I think he was confusing it with a Toranado.

There's a Valvoline Instant Oil Change on Dublin Granville Rd in Columbus, OH that will sometimes have 3 employees standing next to the road with "NO WAIT!" signs. Across the street there is a Russian American farm market with a guy or two often holding up cucumbers, ears of corn?? next to the road.
We are seeing those signs too. They have seemed to replace the "$25 oil change" signs that they used to wave around.
Bummer. I took advantage of the cheap oil changes every now and then. There's a few Jiffy Lubes in my town Johnny recommended to me that I use in a pinch.

Anyways, there is one in Cedar Park, Texas where I work. The temperature is 100 degrees and the poor guys are out there spinning signs.
We have sign spinners for all kinds of businesses. I think it has to do with an ordinance that you can't put a sign in a certain area, but you can have someone physically holding one.

My wife things those sign holders are doing some type of community service or it's somehow court ordered because their job could be replaced by a stick.
Some of those sign spinners are quite talented.

I had a Drippy Lube mo-ron tell me my Camry didn't HAVE a differential. The I4, of course, has one as does every other car I have seen, and a separate fill and drain for it. Changing that fluid was the ONLY reason I went there. The fill is hard to get to.

Thats not new. Been doing that here for as long as i can remember
could be an incentive. If the kid forgot to tighten 2 oil filters, he gets sidewalk duty?
My last visit to Grease Monkey cured me of the desire to use a quik-lube. At the time I had an old Grand Am with the 2.5 I4 that had the canister-type oil filter. I believe that after they pried the old filter off with a screwdriver they discovered that they didn't have a replacement in stock...so they put the damaged one back on, filled it with oil and pushed me out the door with the oil light on and not much oil pressure. Fortunately, I got it to my NAPA mechanic before doing any damage. He did another oil change, replaced the filter and all was well. I've used him exclusively ever since. I can drop it off in the evening and pick it up the next day for <$30.00. I can walk there if I have to....and I won't get shafted in the process.
Its really popular down here in Florida to hold the signs and dance or dress up in costumes. Competition and bad economy, I guess.

Their "Value" service here is $29.88 with a no-name (or at least unidentified) dino.
Most people around here who want "Value" go to Walmart and get their dino changed for Every time I go by, they are out with the signs or are leaning against the doorway/side of the building giving themselves a good scratch with one hand, with a cigarette in the other.

I used to take the Matrix for the $19.99 service at firestone with kendall oil and a firestone filter.
Now it is just too darn busy for me to even go there, I will do it myself before I will be told it will be 3-4 hours to get the service done.
I do it myself with Mobil Super or Quaker State Green Bottle, and I pay more than 20 dollars but I use OEM parts, a new crush washer, and I know the job is done right.

I could see it with a MT.
Also subaru with MT have shared sump diff/mt
