My new girlfriend has a 2006 Volvo S40 2.4. I don't know much about Volvo's in general. I'm a VW guy. What I found out online is, Volvo has a 7,500 OCI. They only recommend conventional oil. The car has a 6.1 quart sump. So that helps with the 7.5K OCI. I wouldn't run conventional in the 2.5T though.

It looks to be a pretty straight forward oil change. I have to remove the splash shield. I will have to pick up a 36mm socket for the filter housing. I only have a 32mm for the Ecotec's I worked on in the past. One good thing is. I work near the best Volvo tuning company in the US, IPD. They have great prices on OEM Volvo maintenance parts.

I have enough quarts of Chevron Supreme 5w30 in my garage to do the next OC. How are these Volvo 2.4 engines on oil? Do they have any problems going the 7.5K, or should I stick with 5K/6 months OCI's?

Interesting that they only recommend conventional oil. What about in Europe?

Id pull UOA to start figuring out how to set up the schedule.

Since it is a new girlfriend, I assume she is a keeper given that you are getting involved in long-term auto repair maintenance planning

I think with a 6-quart sump, 7.5k should be easy with CS 5w30.

NA Volvo engines, AFAIK, are fairly easy on oil - it's the turbo's that can have issues.....

Might as well get an axle socket for the 36mm you never know if you're going to work on a bigger GM FWD.

Got any pics? hahaha

I've never heard of only dino in those Volvos, dino is considered good enough for the dealer but im certain the vehicles owners manual says synthetic oil can be used.

let her take care of the maintenance the same way she was before you met her. if something goes wrong, it'll be all your fault, whether it is or not.

If not, I will just find another woman that drives a MK5 VW, BMW or Mini. They all take a 36mm socket for the filter housing.

I'd recommend finding one that takes a smaller socket. 36mm is a little too 'loose'. better to start off smaller since most tend to get worn out and looser as time goes on.

I have come to realize that if I ever could get a girlfriend she would have to change her own oil or have the $$$ to have a shop to do it.

One of my favorite sayings and for a good reason! I hope the OP doesn't find out the hard way!

Until such time as you say I do let her take care of her own vehicle. Just a hassle waiting to happen for you if anything goes wrong.

Because Ford wouldn't waste quality american minds and ingenuity on a piece of junk unbalanced engine whose saving grace is a cowardly nation of engineers who construct metal to feel safe!
