I replaced the front rotors and pads on my daughter's Cube over the weekend due to a wheel shake when the brakes were applied. I was amazed at how easy it was. Remove 4 bolts on each side, replace rotors and pads. Done! I don't know why anyone would take it to a shop for this...

Did you take the sliding parts of the caliper, remove and clean and lubricate them?
Brakes are pretty easy/incredibly important to do right. Did you torque the wheels down properly? That can help to prevent issues such as rotor warping etc.

You didn't see all the works you listed ?
Many drivers didn't even know how to raise the hood to check oil. Remove 4 bolts each wheel, raise the car then remove the wheels ... are too much works for most drivers.
Simple thing like checking/changing engine air filter is already too difficult for many, that why dealers are making more profit with services and parts than selling new cars.

I'm sorry but there's more to it than that. I guess it's true that a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing.

And did you bleed the brakes as well? Inspect all the lines, hoses, test the ABS system, etc...
There is more to a brake job then just doing a "pad slap". I had so many people come to my shop when I was a tech and I had to fix their "brake jobs" they did themselves.

And did you bleed the brakes as well? Inspect all the lines, hoses, test the ABS system, etc...
There is more to a brake job then just doing a "pad slap". I had so many people come to my shop when I was a tech and I had to fix their "brake jobs" they did themselves.

that is about half a brake job
clean and lube caliper pins
lube/anti-squeal pad backs and ears
flush brake fluid if over 3yrs old

I didn't say I did a brake job. I said replaced the pads and rotors and was simply stating how easy the job was...unlike my wife's Mazda MPV whereas the rotors are pressed onto a spline, which made it impossible for me to do her brakes myself...Some vehicles are much easier to do than others...
