New EPA Regulations for Lawn & Garden Equipment

Allowing pollution is a violation of property rights, and is one of the features of a statist nation.

There are many more important sources of pollution than lawnmower engines, such as the clouds of dust stirred up as you cut the grass. Barbecues, smoky fireplaces and wood stoves, fast food places that dump their fryer fumes into the air, and forest fires give off more stuff to be worried about.

Wood stoves have been EPA regulated since 1988. The fancy ones have catalytic convertors that give off additional heat per cord of wood burnt.

I run a woodstove and, yes, running right one does not see particulates in the smoke nor does it smell all that smoldery or funky. hearth.com is a great resource for keeping them tuned up right.

I visited a house that had a catalyst stove, and I only found out about it when I actually saw it. There was zero smell of wood smoke both inside and outside the house.

The new regulations won't do much for noise abatement I'm afraid.
I know a guy with an old early 60s pick em up truck that smokes so bad I'm tempted to hire him to kill mosquitoes.
Pollutes more that a whole life time of lawn mowing.
Lawn mower makers don't have the clout that the huge corporations have, so they can't keep pushing back compliance dates, or buy credits from other cleaner industries.

That could also describe most of the rapidly aging Mitsubishi powered Dodge products. Lots of those are turning onto smokers.

I have a decent-sized suburban yard and have been running the same $120 Murray "throw-away" mower for 5 years now. I've only changed the air filter twice, oil once, and spark plug once. Doesn't smoke but smells just a tad. Good investment, though.

It's helped in the maintenance of your version of a greener tomorrow.

Good buy.

..but think of the hit you're taking for the team! You gave that person who pulled this out of their behind a purpose. They swept out the corners for something to do in busy work.

Don't you feel better??

At a very low price that would make the sheeple want to run electric stuff with out a second thought.

No sir.

I think that this regulation is great because I'm going to put simple emissions control devices on my (and all of my friends) old school 6.5 hp B&S motors now. Then I can write up a carbon footprint reduction scope, accumulate a few carbon credits then sell them to A. Gore (via the climate exchange) so he can fly his jet around more to talk about how important this regulation is!!

I think the EPA is banning future 2 cycle engines productions. I just picked up a new Stihl chainsaw ... just my guess!
