New Bronco

Nice! We got a Badlands Sasquatch in September for my wife. I pushed for a Raptor Bronco but she thought it was a bit too over-the-top. Since we have 3 kids we ended up with a 4 door but I’d have preferred a 2 door. I changed the oil at 1,300 miles and will change again at 5,000 and then every 5k from there on.

I am running slightly lower tire pressure for a softer ride but other than that nothing else. I’ll probably incorporate the spare into the rotation every 5 or 10k.

Post some pics!

I remember there being something weak in the steering or front drivetrain if you wheel it but there's a clamp on brace or something that takes care of it. Maybe Ford addressed it. I don't pay close attention to them but that's was the only thing I've seen. (Almost), the early soft tops would let snow in if it was parked in a blizzard. Not a big problem in Kingman.

I'm illogically partial to Jeeps but these are really nice.

Unlike the 3.5EB which was evolved from a NA car engine, the 2.7 was a clean sheet design to have a lot of boost pumped through it right from the get go. I'm not a fan of the oil pump belt, but otherwise a really good engine!

Mine is an early 2.7, I'm also not a fan of an oil pump belt.
Otherwise, I'm not sure if you could hammer an engine harder than I have.

Tuned on 93 since 8k miles, currently 80K.

40 drag strip runs
4 full road course days (stock Fusion Sport brakes were a huge weak link on road course).
Beat the living snot out of it every time I'm in it.
I really don't understand why it hasn't blown up yet.

Great purchase but I'd steer away from both the Motorcraft oil blend (you want at least full syn, there is Motorcraft available at much greater cost) and unfortunately the MC filters have gone seriously downhill as well.

Have fun with it!

Don’t use the Motorcraft oil and filters. I would use something like the Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30. I was at > 5% fuel dilution with the 2.7 on my last analysis, granted I’m in a very cold climate. Carquest Premium, Microguard Select or Napa Gold filter. Check you coolant level periodically as the new ones have a tendency to develop low coolant due to air purging, supposedly. Change the differential fluids and transfer case fluid in the first 10k if not sooner. There is a a lot of break in metal. Change the transmission fluid no later than 30k, I would do 20, then every 30k after.

I have two of them with ~35k each and haven’t had any major issues. The transmission did get a bit jerky on the one I didn’t change fluid on until 30k, but fluid and filter seemed to solve it.

I'll at least bite on the comments to not use motorcraft filters. For those who aren't aware, the 2.7 uses a cartridge style filter instead of the spin on. As a result, you can see the media everytime you put it in and take it out.

Has anyone pointed to issues with the FL2062 that goes on these units?

It’s a Mann + Hummel filter with relatively poor media efficiency. Ford keeps the specs of their Motorcraft brand filters unpublished but if it’s like the rest of their products it’s has somewhere around a 35 or 40 micron absolute efficiency. The ones I recommended are less money for 20 micron or better absolute efficiency. It might not matter that much in the end but why pay more for a worse filter? Feel free to search about Mann + Hummel filters on the oil filter sub forum.

Is it grey? Might this particular trim all be in grey?
There's a new one near me.
I've met the owner once whilst walking the dog.
He had considered modding an older Bronco but a good offer got him to go new; thinking the stock option package would hold value better than a hodge-podge of aftermarket parts.

I've seen only one other Sasquatch...same color.

A pert, restored '91 one street over inspired this itch.
It's a 2-door in red and has very tall rear windows. It'd make you smile.

I like those broncos! Pretty nice rigs. We have a few in our off road club and they're quite impressive. You can get the top down/ doors off experience without the reliability issues of jeep.

I do wish Ford put in an offroad worthy suspension/steering setup in them, but I understand why they didn't.
I wish Ford would have paired the manual for with the V6.

I've had no issues with the stock 2062, but my warrantee was up last Aug and I have a ton of mods waiting to go in.
Will check out the threads on the "better" filter, thanks...

Agree on especially the rear diff, ASAP. This was the fluid in my 23 F250 @ 900 miles (rear diff).

I come from a Ford family and was very interested in a new Bronco (despite the fact that I despised the 1973 Bronco that I unfortunately inherited from my father). I’d have a new one in my driveway if any of the Ford dealers in my area would hire sales, service and parts staff with opposable thumbs.
That said, the new Bronco is an outstanding off-roader.

Rockauto had em for just under $5 a pop. Got a filter at that price point you'd recommend?

Put me firmly in the camp of worrying less about micron ratings etc and instead meeting the oem spec and changed regularly.

Nothing I've seen on the canister style motorcraft filter has me alarmed or concerned.

Carquest standard would still be better for about that price. If you really like Mann + Hummel and need the $3 keep using them, it makes no difference to me, I’m not getting a cut.

We have a few Broncos in our 4x4 club. I'm very impressed with the 7 speed manual. Really low axle gearing, that actual granny first and some models have even lower transfer case gearing ... they can crawl very nice for a new vehicle!

I'd be afraid of blowing the transmission or PDU apart in the fusion! They're an impressive engine for sure.

There is a period of 2.7 F150 with the chain drive oil pump, 6R80 transmission and foot actuated parking brake that I'd snag if I could get for the right price and lower mileage.

Couple guys in the low 500 WHP range (on E30) who have yet to blow up a PTU.
Now a couple have trashed RDU's, but that was severe drag strip launches
(couple have cracked front CV's too, same deal @ drag strip).
Easy for me to never do that again though, as they closed both E-Town and ATCO near me.

Loved the stock 6R80 I had in my 14 GT (was trapping just over 130, before I de-modded,
Carvana'd, and bought Shelby)
