New ACDelco PF63?

Looks like this and other variants come wrapped on the bottom so was thinking probably Asian.. and here is this filter and then a variant with box showing China.

Yes it does come like that. I forgot I pulled the plastic before the photo.

Obviously, it's not long time ACDelco maker Champ Labs. The follow up shots provide more info with cello wrapped base and China coo, some Asian filter maker. Based on that 'could' also have a coil compression spring. I'd add, as it likely uses endcap integral bypass, a significant improvement over the Champ Labs made ACD filter.

It looks like the Delco silver line, or was called advantage, which makes sense since the other supplier isn’t in business. These have been around as the boxed one shown has advantage which they say is now silver. So is not a new thing, was the economy line.

My guess GM is scrambling to find whoever they can to temporarily fill the void while they seek a more permanent agreement with either MANN + Hummel or some other manufacturer.

The new WIX XP 20,000 mile claims 99% at 23 Microns and recent videos I seen of it cut open it looked very well built so hopefully WIX is bringing back quality control.

GM has had these jobber filters for some time now, so they have to fall back to using them. Never heard of them before today when I saw it on the website.

Still a pass for me with the nitrile rubber anti drain back valve. They should be using silicone.

Finally got around to it. At the cost of $7.65 after tax. It definitely looks like a PGI filter. Got confirmation today from the parts department that we will be replacing the older pf63’s with these because they’re sourcing the filters “elsewhere”

Looks like AEM - a GM requirement for years …

People like to harp on nitrile adbv for no reason. They used them for ever in the past with no issues. People shouldn’t be using filters more than 5k anyway

I wish GM would pick up the ball and go into the loss leader commodity filter making business in the U.S. and help out all U.S. car manufacturers.

This is a $1.74 piece jacked by import duties. We don't need to give China more of our $$$.

This continuing unfolding tragedy of our own making makes me sick to the stomach.

Delco Rep: We require Blue paint on the filter cans.
China Maker: We have Black paint.
Delco Rep: Can you paint our filters Blue.
China Maker: Yes, we can paint filters Black.
The why Ford made his cars and trucks only black for years - Black paint was cheaper than colors.

Henry Ford reincarnated as a Chinese filter manufacturer! Just like the Model T!

Just got old blue PF63 and new black PF63A cut open and compared side by side.
The PF63 was a shipping damaged one so nobody cares, PF63A I bought it, just for fun and out of curiosity.
Dispite being shorter, PF63A is heavier than PF63 significantly, for an oil filter.
Once cut open, the base plate and case are both heavier/thicker on PF63A.
The filter element got shorter, of course, and the PF63A has visible inconsistancy on plate gaps, PF63 is more even and uniform.
The bypass valve are different, cannot tell who is better, as long as they work as designed and opens/closes at the same pressure, it should be OK.
The anti-drainback valve are both black rubber I would assume, significantly thicker on old PF63, almost doubled the thickness.
Overall they are different but should not make a huge difference.

Got rid of that ruffled leaf spring that old Champ Labs made ACDelco has. The slight variance in pleat spacing is a non-issue, not enough difference to matter.

Woah, are we going to be seeing well built ACDelco filters?? I never thought I would see the day, might be going back to OEM filters for the Blazer.

Any chance we could get a C&P of one? Or know where to buy one so I can do a C&P?
Once upon a time AC Delco filters were quite good. I seem to recall that they were made by Wix for a little while, at least for the Canadian market (this was about 20 years ago). And in the late 90s and into the first few years of the early 2000s one of the very best filters was the AC Delco Ultraguard Gold

There was also a really good AC Delco filter that I used to get for my 95 Trans Am. It was the PF35L IIRC and it was only a couple of bucks more than the regular version but used a better quality media.
