Signed the paperwork on a lease for a 2016 VW Tiguan for the wife yesterday. With my daughter getting her G2 license (Ontario graduated license program) earlier this month we had discussed her taking over the Jetta, which she has talked about doing for the past couple years now.
Bad news is now I have three BLACK cars in my stable LOL...Good thing I don't mind doing some detailing on the side.
Went with the Trendline (S-trim for you folks in the US)as it was the only trim that a manual transmission is available, which for my wife is a must. She forgone a sunroof, AWD and some other tech goodies to drive a manual. Seems like they are going the way of the do-do bird. Anyway this trim has plenty of standard features and with the Convenience package, really provides a lot.
Before settling on the Tiguan, she test drove a Golf and the Beetle , both with the new 1.8T. Golf was nice, the Beetle she did not like to her surprise. She did not even step inside the new Jetta, just didn't like the look of them. In the end the space, ground clearance and that 2.0T engine won her over. The Tiguan is a bit like a GTI on steroids lol I guessed that would be her pick.
Why lease over purchase. The lease incentives were really good, plus with VW's current issues, what will the future hold for them? This way I'm not married to it for the next 10+ years as that is what I usually keep my vehicles.
