Some of you may have read that I was using a Old ford f-150 to haul lumber for the construction of a log cabin well Im happy to say that It made all the trips with no problems just Extremly bad Gas milage. We'll Now it's time to actually "Tinker" with this thing and My starting problem is the transmission. It shifts fine into what gears it will go anyway. The transmission will Not go into OD, And when I go over say 55 MPH the truck will just go into kickdown gear, Regardless of If i put it into the OD selection or OD off selection . Im just 19 So Im still learning alot when it comes to cars. Any ideas ?

How old ? See if you can get some codes from the vehicle, which will include transmission codes as well as engine and emissions. On the pre-ODBII you can just use a jumper wire and read blinking check engine lights to get the codes, otherwise aome auto places will read them for you.

An account at Alldata is cheaper than the factory manuals.

Letting us know the model year and transmission type would be really nice.

Assuming AOD, since it is an overdrive in an "old" F-150, make sure your TV linkage/cable is properly adjusted and conncted, especially at the throttle body.

Tell me about it going into kickdown gear at 55. If it isn't in OD ever, that would mean it is kicking down into 2nd? Just curious.

AODs have few problems. OD burning out and slipping due to a loose TV cable is problem #1. Since your cable is properly adjusted, and OD isn't kicking in at all, I would suspect the governer first, after that some sort of valve body problem like someone above mentioned.

If I hit 55 and really feather the throttle and watch it and I maintain 3rd gear, But as soon as I approach 60 it will act like I almost kicked it down to the floor to pass sombody. The rpms will go thru the roof and the truck will start to pull. I'll look at the governor tommorow and see were that leads if it seems like it is functioning properly then I'll prob just let this be a hauling truck and forget about it.
