Our neighbour's cat is using our flower beds as a litter box. We'd rather it didn't.

And it lies in wait and tries to catch birds in our yard. We'd rather it didn't do that either.

We've talked to the neighbour and she says she'll clean the cat poop out of our flower beds. But that isn't really the point. She's all for us chasing the cat out of our yard, and sicking the dog on it (though our dog has a heart condition and shouldn't be over-exerting). We've tried laying out prickly rose branches, vanilla, used tea bags, and a dusting of cayenne pepper.

We're thinking of getting about a pound of cayenne pepper and putting on a good layer (though we might not appreciate that when we're working on the flower beds). The cat only poops in the dry area at the back of the flower beds where we don't do any planting so I'm thinking of laying in an expanded metal grate just below the soil surface to make the digging tougher.

Without involving firearms, any other suggestions?

I abhor pet owners who turn their pets loose to wreak havoc with their neighbors. But that’s as far as my comments will go. I took a year off from this forum voluntarily and it was quite satisfying. No desire to impose my opinions any further. I hope you all have a nice day🤗

Plant some catnip in your neighbor's flowerbed. That will keep him zonked out on his side of the fence.

Cats don't like garden hoses. Maybe a Bluetooth controlled yard sprinkler you can turn on when it comes visiting?
Problem is the flower beds aren't very visible from inside the house. We never catch the cat in the flower beds.

We only know it's that cat because the problems started right after the owner moved in. And we do occasionally see the cat hiding in the bushes elsewhere in the yard eyeing the birds.

The worst part is her house is set up with a "cattery", a special area designed to let a cat outdoors without it being able to go anywhere, but she doesn't use it.

Borrow a live trap from animal control, and bring it back to them with the cat inside. Hopefully your neighbour tires of going to retrieve it and does something to keep it out of your yard.

Bonus points if your municipality has a "don't let your animals roam around unleashed" bylaw, as they'll likely hand her a ticket when she goes to get Fluffy.

In my area if you humanely trapped a cat animal control will come by and pick it up. The owner would than have to go to animal control to retrieve the animal. They pay a retrieval fee and the owner has to show evidence the cat has had a rabies shot.
We even had a humane trap (left by the previous owner of our house) and gave it to the daughter of the previous owner of the "cat" house.

It’s my understanding that cats like to protect their food source.
So put a plate of dry food in the spot where it’s currently pooping and the problem should go away on its own.
