neighbor vandalized my floodlight, my options?

There is one big assumption here. And that is that the neighbors activities are about the flood lights. It might not be. A flood light was broken, the door bell has been repeatedly depressed, and a watering pot has been busted. No clean pattern to say its the lights.
So we really don't know the motivation of the neighbor.

I keep thinking of that scene in Christmas Vacation when Chevys lights were beaming in the UPPIES house then the power gets cut and he takes a massive spill down the stairs.

So its almost 5pm today. I have my ladder out and installing my front door camera. I just happen to look over and see this neighbor standing behind a bush watching me. As soon as I start glaring over there, he leaves and goes back inside his house. Weirdo! He was wearing a light blue shirt and blue dress pants. I took a picture from my vantage point. He probably was alerted that I put NEW floodlights today.

He can see the cameras! Your goal should have been concealed ones to catch him. He may resort to circumventing the camera zones now that he knows you are increasing surveillance. If you had no idea what was going on cameras might repel thieves etc.
Don't underestimate him , and still conceal some game cameras with ir flashes in the zones not covered by your security cameras.

I also planted two baby 1.5 foot tall emerald green arbor vitae trees against that fence. They can grow 8 to 10 feet.

Now that he knows where the camera is, move it somewhere else since he will know where not to walk next.

Lights look good

This guy will regret messing with my floodlights. If he's as loony as I think he is, he will know those cameras in between our houses and in front of my house will drive him nuts. Here's the pic I was talking about. He was standing behind the bush, I could see his body shape through that thin bush. The dark blue dress pants and light blue shirt was not good camouflage.

. as soon as I made eye contact, he walked back inside.

Do you really leave those flood lights on all night living that close? Or is it just late and you turn them out?

The modified lighting appears a lot more reasonable. As for driving him nuts, I don't think that'a a good idea. Until now he has been acting on very limited battlefield. If you keep him from acting at your property, he may follow you and cut your break lines or run you over at the Walmart parking lot. When you saw him hiding behind the bushes, you should have offered him your binoculars. Rent and watch the movie Lakeville Terrace.

Well, maybe not so much......two reasons here....

1- We have many different walks of life here now, so you are going to get many different responses depending where they live or what they do. With 50k members, that tends to happen....

2-We didn't know the whole story until the picture came along, so they views of the other guy were quite jaded. OP just did not see it until it was pointed out....these things do happen.

I personally didn't say much because it it just lacked info somewhere, so I waited. Also watched people get carried away..wich was funny at first, then sad...

We have some very strong opinion members here, which sometimes is great, sometimes not so much. Passion here can be both a blessing and a curse....

Of course people react and express varied opinions BEFORE all the facts come out. Otherwise, the board would be empty.

How and when does a person know the whole story anyway unless both sides speak? You don't.

This isn't a court of law....or even real conversation.

You expect too much....it's just a typical message board.

Maybe....but I think we have cooler people here..

Actually friend....I don't feel that I am all that "macho". And I certainly don't think my posts said anything about being macho.

It is interesting that I have attracted your attention though. Maybe if you don't agree with my opinions, you should address that directly? Throwing words and phrases around and then hiding back into the anonymity of a message board seems rather childish.

Careful, the next thing he'll do is tell you what you're thinking!

Agreed, this is much better both in intensity and direction. I still question why they are directed at the fence vs. down along the perimeter of the house but at least they're not shining all over the neighbor's home anymore.

No the sensible thing is to not shine friggin floodlights into your neighbors' yards and windows. The OP's choices are completely independent of what the crazy neighbor is doing. We can all stipulate that the neighbor's behavior is inappropriate. That however does not give the OP license to behave similarly inappropriately. He needs to take stock of his own contributions to this.

this thread is really entertaining.
Andrew -- you're obviously in the camp in which it's o.k. to gun down the guy, or wait in an ambush to attack and injure/kill him.
shoot first, ask questions later.that'll learn 'em.risk a fistfight, a stabbing, a shooting/possibly a death -- initially, over a lighting dispute.i guess that you can't argue with logic like that.
many posters concur that the op initially caused this.then, the stupidity started.
what has the op got to lose, in trying reason FIRST? if common sense doesn't prevail, then the odds are that blood will be spilled -- over a yard lighting issue.how moronic is that?

just to clarify, I don't have a problem with gunning someone down. the difference between me and Andrew, et al in his camp, is that I need a good reason.a lighting issue is not a good reason.
how little some of you value life is what I don't understand.
but, obviously, opinions vary.
got to go. have a good night, all.

Look through all my posts on this topic my friend. Tell me where I subscribed to "gun down" the idiot or "attack and injure/kill him"?????

Do you enjoy labeling me? Does it make it easier for you to put words into my mouth so that you can then marginalize me? How sad buddy...really sad.

The OP DID NOT "originally" cause the neighbor to trespass, vandalize, and frighten his wife. You don't read or comprehend very well.

You mention the word "reason". Don't you think being "reasonable" went out the window when the first clandestine altercation occured? Or do you think a person, after breaking that law and destroying property, deserves to be treated with "reason"?

You sound like the fella we have in the White House.

Andrew -- if you read my post, you would see that I did not single out anyone. I stated that you ARE IN THE CAMP IN WHICH IT'S OK TO ........ .and, you are. clearly, there are two "camps" here, if you will. one says to try reason, the other condones violence .not verbatim, of course, but the general idea is there, without writing a novel.

I figured that I made myself clear -- apparently, I didn't. several posters have commented on your views. you are in 1 camp, and I'm in the other, and we'll have to agree to disagree. I hope that you understand that. I can't simplify it any more than that.
the white house comment is funny.
have a good day, man.

*the new lighting is good and the op didn't have to ambush/shoot/stab the neighbor. yet.good work. it's nice to see common sense used from time to time, in trying to diffuse the situation.

^^^^^No problem Yeti.

I just don't like to be categorized. The older I get the more I realize that my views on various subjects doesn't always lend itself to certain "camps" or ideologies.

Because of my general comments, many here think I am simply a far-right wacko or at the least 100% conservative on all my views. That isn't true as, far as who I am...yet when in discourse with fellow members...especially those that I disagree with, they throw the right-winger label on me and walk away. I don't particularly care for that tactic...but hey, it's the internet!

For the sake of clarity....while I am not an appeaser or one that believes in allowing this nut job neighbor to get away with his actions....I CERTAINLY would not take it to the level others on here have hinted at. While a believer in our 2nd Amendment, I am not one that wears it on my sleeve (or silly slogan t-shirts).

Anyway....thanks at least for taking the time to explain what you meant. To me that means a lot.

thank our dieties that we live in Canada and the u.s. where we can express different views without ending up in a gulag.
life would be no fun if all agreed on any given subject matter.as long as posts are kept clean, have at it.
hopefully, this goofy situation is soon resolved, and the 2 parties can enjoy a beer together, at some point in time. thanks for your post, and have a good day.

But you don't mind categorizing. "Just like the guy we have in the White House" Appeaser, so on and so forth.

There is definitely a personality category on automotive boards. Take a look at corvette forum politics section. Usually an old retired white guy who's spent their whole lives licking someone's boots and now they've finally had it and they're gonna do this and gonna do that, but its all peacocking and machoism.
