What can I do to make my front yard a bit more attractive? I am not into gardening and, being busy with work, have no time for it.

Some sort of permeable paving? The tree sheds a lot and the paving should not interfere with sweeping up the yard.

I would pull up the bricks, lay down some fabric, and fill it with River Rock. You could use an electric leaf blower to blow the leaves out onto the concrete, and then sweep them up from there.
I would be concerned that tree roots might eventually push the pavers up, causing them to become uneven.

This is River Rock that I have in my landscaping. It’s about as low-maintenance as you can get. You could even get a Chimenea like I have, and possibly a few other small hardscape pieces to place there. It all comes down to your taste in decoration.

Tear out dangerous concrete. Looks like a law suit

Make a new path away from tree as much as possible

Or get rid of tree and plant an evergreen
I cannot get rid of the tree even if I wanted to. The city wants to preserve its trees and requires you to apply for a permit before any tree removal and will refuse to issue the permit unless there was the danger of the tree falling over or some other compelling reason.

The poor shape of the concrete is from my idiot neighbour ( luckily he sold the house and I have new neighbours now). The driveway is shared and he had a huge dumpster put in to haul away dirt form his backyard. All the damage you see, including the major damage adjacent to the sidewalk, is from that dumpster. I have to pour new concrete.

The river rocks look very attractive, I might go that route. The leaf blower suggestion is not something I had thought of.

You are absolutely correct ! many Canadian cities are going this route needing a permit and permission to cut trees.
that bylaw just passed where I live .
Two years ago they were clear cutting bush across the road from me knowing this was coming .
What a shame beautiful hard wood bush gone and left to grow up in an eyesore of scrub and weeds.

I like the tree, gives some separation of the house from the busy street.
