Need a Substitute for Castrol 5w-30LL

I am quite aware of what forum I am on, and have been on here for 21+ years. I've read a few articles...

Irregardless of the oil thickening as you state, it still does not exceed the 30 grade rating. Key up on the 'more robust' part. You can also go back and read my earlier post on built in obsolescence. The end result being, I asked for an equivalent to what is getting harder to get, and more expensive. Not an argument as to why. I don't understand what is so hard for that to be understood.

Any other C3 oil with the same approvals is equivalent. Mobil 1 ESP is probably the best option IMO, many have already mentioned it.

I won’t get into the planned obsolescence thing because that exists on every part of the car, of which motor oil doesn’t touch most.

Good luck in your search 👍

On the other hand you’ve gotten multiple correct answers to your question many posts back. An equivalent is not hard to get.

Not going to get into it with you edy. You know I use C3 in my own car because it calls for it. We both know his car will last 200k+ with dealer swill providing he maintains it properly.

I mean really the gist of what you’re saying is to just use A3/B4 or C3 oils in everything that calls for 30 grade (perhaps even 20 grade also). I think that is unnecessary but whatever makes the vehicle owner sleep better.
You still cannot provide single argument as why he shouldn’t use C3. I mean tell us at least one reason why he should use ILSAC GF6 instead of C3?
Price is not an issue, so what is it? I am all ears.
Edit:
Castrol EU recommends for this engine:
Castrol Edge 0W30 C3
Castrol Edge 5W30 A3/B4
Castrol Edge 0W40

I wasn't complaining that I didn't. Hence my list in an earlier post. The "why" I wanted what I was using was the issue with some.

Why do you need such a fancy/high performance oil for a Hyundai? Literally go to Walmart and pick up any syn of your chiding and you should be more than good.
What does car brand have to do with oil choice? I would guess that 1.6 T has a higher power density than many a porsche and mb.
Plus don't those engines need a a bit of extra help anyhow? :)

This 504/507 is getting tough to find at a decent price.
This is on the VW approval list and you could get 10L plus free shipping for a few $$ more than your old brews 5 quarts.
I bought some for my VW.

What name exactly is it using on the VW approval list? I can't find anything there, nor on the Mercedes-Benz listing nor the Porsche list. They're not using the proper language for that Mercedes-Benz approval either.

Not sure if I should start a new thread for this question or post it here, but since both both Valvoline European Vehicle Full Synthetic XL-III 5W-30 and Mobil 1 ESP 5w-30 were mentioned I thought I would ask. Both have nearly identical certs, except the Valvoline is API SP and the Mobil 1 is SN. Seems like quite a difference as all other things seem to be equal. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

It’s surprising to me that an oil like these would go after an API license in the first place. Considering the market that’s hardly “quite a difference” I don’t think. Why do you think it is?

I mentioned them in another post. Harder to find. More expensive. Worse fuel economy. Potentially more prone to LSPI (remember, it’s a Hyundai). We both know EU recommendation is different because autobahn.

We’ve had this discussion on this board 1000 times. If you like to use a fifteen foot ladder to get out of a ten foot hole, that’s cool. A twelve foot ladder also works just fine.

Likely simply the date they were formulated and tested. Euro formulated oils don’t really care about API, it is not the primary focus. The manufacturer specs they are trying to meet are superior.

Lol, I literally mentioned that MB229.52 has most stringent LSPI test and you still talking more prone. EVERY WAL MART has these oils. Again: EVERY!!! AT SAME PRICE! And tell us, enlighten us, what is going to be mpg hit?

So it is not on the VW approval list? I also noticed that it's not even an SAE grade so I'd avoid it at all costs considering there is a less expensive alternative that actually does have the approval (and is an SAE grade).

That language indicates it is not approved.

Use any API,ACEA,ILSAC or JASO that meet C3 specifications and purchase the cheapest on special
