Salt Water as a Weed/Grass Killer:

Discovered this when an area of my lawn kept dying out where my sump pump flows out onto the lawn. Then it dawned on me that the water softener empties into the sump which pumps the salt water out onto the lawn...killing it. So I put a small amount of salt into a sprayer and added water up to the 1/2 way mark...let it dissolve for a day. Then sprayed the weeds and within a few days they were dead.
Just thought I'd pass this along to those that don't like using Roundup etc.

Place some puppy pee pads in that area so all the neighborhood dogs go there. Or place a fire hydrant in that area and keep moving it around. Move it about a foot each time.

Add a Tablespoon of Liquid soap to a gallon of salt/water/vinegar mix to make it stick to the plant like napalm!

+1 have used this several times with great success.

Years ago in the citrus groves of Central Florida, they experimented with using steam to kill weeds. It was a set up you pulled behind your tractor with a small boiler with a boom off to the side that sprayed steam under the trees. Worked extremely well regardless of weather, (these days, it's been raining every day here in Florida for two months now and I can't herbicide). For some reason, it never took off and I have been unable to find out why. I thought it was very effective and environmentally safe.
