NASCAR racers: What kind of oil?

My thinking was that an oil like Amsoil's 0w-30 was used in NASCAR by a few. It relies on a better base stock and also is claimed to go 35k miles, which we know isn't really accurate but thats not the point. I wasn't refering to the 0w-5 oils. So I think you can make the assumption.

Yes, they care. The oil is pre heated prior to start up. There is an electric heating element in the dry sump oil tank which sits just behind the driver. Look closely and you will see a 110VAC male plug flush mounted in the B-pillar of every race car (probably not on show cars, though).

BTW, the sump tank holds 16 quarts of oil (I knew someone would ask that.....).

The thing with this new Mobil R is that we don't know what type of street oil it will be. We don't know the TBN so it could be just for racing and not be a good balance between extended drain and performance, something Amsoil has done so well at blending. I'll give Amsoil the nod for taking performance and extended drain and putting it in a bottle.

I hope what's said (Rusty) isn't extrapolated into the real world as these guys get new engines for each race so this thing about the bearings lasting...yeah...

Real world: Castrol R 0-30 is pulled from the shelves in Aus.. Why? Cuz it wasn't what is was coughed up to be and nobody used it. Guess they didn't want all the extra HP...or consumption.

They get new engines but do you think you could put your car through more abuse then running 175mph at 10K rpms for 500 laps? An oil that is able to hold up an engine that long easily keep a regular street car going for thousands of miles.
