We already know how well MS5K is from seeing 2010_FX4's UOAs. I also did some research and know Ashland, whom makes Valvoline, also makes NAPA's oil. That being stated, which of the (2) would you choose for a 5K OCI?
NAPA currently has their conventional oil on sale, $2.69 a qt.

That was a mistake, it's 3.49, which is still a great deal.
I'd use MS5K over Napa dino but at $3.49 I'd use Napa syn. over MS5K.

I too would choose MS5K over the NC. But, I made this post for others who have seen the NAPA add, to also look at the UOAs of 2010_FX4, and decide then.
And yes, I would choose the NAPA synthetic over MS5K, if I wanted to use a synthetic.

I agree with this.

Volk06, I forgot to mention that also. Thanks.
Another reason for posting this is, there are Valvoline members that should see how good MS5K is, even compared to some of Pennzoil's best synthetic oil.

But, "IF" you are a Valvoline oil user, then this sale is for you.

I got some ms5k for 2.19 a qt last night at Farm and Fleet. Last day for the sale and they only had 7 qts left of 5w30

Just curious, but why do you hate Ashland?

Because years ago they bought a shipyard, made massive improvements to it such as repaving all of the streets, changing all of the street signs, rebuilding all of the warehouses, installing all new machine shop equipment, and the like--they spent close to 2MM and this was back in the 1970s.

After the last improvement was made, they shut the shipyard down and terminated all of the workers (about 2000 of them). The whole purpose of doing all of the improvements was to write it all off--at the expense of the livelihood of all of the workers. All of the existing ship orders were transferred overseas. The area was highly dependent on the shipyard for income and thus started a downward spiral from which the area never recovered.

This directly impacted some of my family and since there were so many out of work at the time, one could not "buy" a job much less gain one. Thus, when I grew old enough to make decisions about which companies I would or would not support, Ashland was definitely not on my approved vendors list (and never will be). It is just a personal thing...

There is probably no much difference. There were some good Valvoline Conventional and NextGen UOAs out there. NAPA is supposedly the same stuff. MS5K and Valvoline both use sodium based anti-wear additives. MS5K has slightly higher initial TBN, but I don't really know if it means anything.
