If you want store to ask you for your name, address and phone number, you will love Radio Shack! Were you the same guys who hated them for that practice?

I've only bought oil from Napa in the last few years...usually don"t have what I need...or it is much, much cheaper on rockauto...

You make a valid point. This is why AAP has a fake name for a previous number.

Now, as to holding out.. Let's take bets. Who thinks the local NAPA will look me up in the system, and maybe pick up the phone to even TRY to help me out with the battery from the other thread, as far as exchanging? I bought it three weeks ago.

And they make me feel as though it is MY fault for not keeping all receipts in my F_150. So, according to them, maybe I am at fault for not having my birth certificate and 2011 Tax Returns readily available to produce, as well....

8:13AM My faith in humanity has been restored. NAPA is replacing my battery for free!

Without receict.

Date code was B3, so, pretty obvious I checked out.

I just went through this with my daughter 250 miles away at college. She left her interior light on and ran down her Autozone gold top I bought here. I picked Autozone because there is one 2 miles from her house at school. One quick jump start and she goes to AZ. The guy there looks her up in the computer, load tests her battery which shows good and charges it for her. N/C. Problem solved.

I remember about 13 years ago when I first started driving they were very helpful everytime I would go in for something. Usually to replace a part. Over the course of a year I spent several hundred dollars there.

I tried the 2 near my house recently and they are terrible. One of them gave me a hard time/arguing with me for buying 20 weight oil. Really? Its been in use for 11 or 12 years now. The other store I walked in and there was 1 light on in the middle of the store. No joke. There were 2 guys working. One was standing behind the register smoking and blowing it out into the customer area where I was looking around. The other guy was stocking the shelves and watching me without saying anything. OK guys seeya later...

This paragraph just summarizes my experiences with NAPA. They are not equipped to effectively deal with retail customers, nor do they aspire to. If one is willing to operate under diminished expectations and pay an extra 20-30% for the privilege of doing so, NAPA will gladly take your money.

That is why I go to AAP. Good service, great prices with discount codes, and a warehouse < 10 miles from my house, means same or next day service if they don't have what I need (which is rare.)

The only NAPA I have by me is a converted commercial garage. It's more like a parts desk, where you tell the dude what you need and he disappears to get the part. You can't walk around.

NAPA is probably the last store I go to for parts, except for the local CarQuest which I have never been in. The employees aren't too bad as far as customer service, but the hours SUCK. They are open 9-5 during the week, and until noon on saturdays. I can't go before work, I can't go there after work. Sometimes I can make it there in time if I have class until 4:30. Even then, I have gotten there when they are locking the doors. Saturdays are a joke, the place is usually crowded because of the [censored] hours during the week.

Ten minutes further down the road is an Advance and an Autozone so its easier to just go there.

First I want to say that, when it comes to service, the service you get for each and every store depends on the owner and the people working there. It doesn't matter what store you go into, if it's a chain store, there will be good and bad ones.
As with the local NAPA stores, my closest one does okay and they know me by name. However, a lot of the parts that I've gotten lately are not in a local warehouse, but are located in some store that's 1,000 miles away and takes about 5 days to get to my local store. They also charge a UPS shipping fee on top of the regular price. Yet O'Reillys can almost always get the parts overnight and there is no extra shipping charge (at least yet) if the part is far away and takes several days to come in. My local NAPA store also makes no incentive to find parts for a car that's 50 years old. I have them look for something and a month later they tell me that they can't find it when I come in the store for something else. This is why RockAuto is getting a lot more of my business.

Fascinating--glad I read this thread. I do not care for my local NAPA and have always felt like the workers were bored/unfriendly--never felt welcome there. Looks like it is a company wide issue.

Never, NEVER had a bad experience at AAP.....
