These are 21348 and 91348s. Same application but the first is ProSelect and the second is NACAR Select.
The ProSelect has the dome end bypass and looks to me like thinner, more porous media (under 50X magnification).

I can't tell for sure if the NASCAR has the same media as the NAPA Gold, but it appears to me better than the PS and the same or similar as the Gold. The NASCAR Retains the Gold's thread-end bypass, too.

The NASCAR has a strange turbine oil spinner thing under the inlet holes...Gimmick?

The PS element is a little taller with the dome end bypass but seems to have less media overall, although I didn't measure it.

Both look like nitrile ADBVs

That's suppose to "improve" oil circulation through out the filter and media.

gimmick from what I've been told

I'm thinking so.

One thing I learned with the bunch on NAPA filters I've opened up, you are not getting Gold/Wix quality with the cheaper ProSelects. Not that they are bad, but I'll pay more for the top 'o the line.

What I've heard also...

+1

Nothing wrong with the PS, but I'd stick with the gold. Here's the PS I cut open a while back from a 2002 Saturn with 3k miles:

Yeah, the PS is a decent budget filter, but if I can scrape up the extra 2-3 bucks...

So that's a Pro Select without the "rubber grommet"* combo valve. Looking just at the media and endcaps it looks similar to a ST non ecore.

The Nascar looks closer to NG design. Was wondering what the plastic piece was attached to base endcap. Interesting, similar idea as the tornado device sold for air intakes. Hmmm.

*ARCOgraphite term for PS combo valve.

This particular ProSelect model has a spring loaded bypass in the dome end of the center tube similar to the Purolator design.
I've noticed various part numbers of ProSelects--and I believe even different manufacture dates--have different bypass designs. The newest is the rubbery ecore-like combo valve.

The ProSelect 21516's I have in my stash for short OCIs--sludge clean up duty, have the Wix/NG style thread end bypass, and they are basically just the longer version of this filter here.

The NASCAR Select is the one I know the least about. This is the first one I have ever cut open. That turbine thing I guess is supposed to spin the oil for enhanced flow...but it just looks like an additional obstruction to me.

if the proselect is anything like the protec that wix makes (judging by the pics, it sure looks like it) , it has some of the worst media i have seen in my life. the protec is the only filter i have ever cut open, where you can hold the media up to a light, and actually see little pin holes of light coming through. i have never seen that on any other filter, ever.

Yeah I can see pinholes...at least in the magnefier. Can't with the Gold or Wix branded medias.
I use the PS for cleanup duty with MM oil/Seafoam, whatever and short oil changes.

No you are not i proved that to my self this summer when i was doing oil flushes on my FORD tractor i was using NPS and upon inspection the media was unacceptably thin and tore/broke easily when bent compared to the NG, i will not use a NPS again there a 3-5k filter IMO.

Yeah, media in this one I cut is not as tough as the top end versions...I guess they got to cut corners where they can for a basically half price version of the NG/Wix.

Mine was a white NPS but the two are the same you just get black paint and that neat little spiral wing gizmo for the NASCAR version.

Well at least in this part number the NASCAR media looks better.

Now I am going to get some yellow paint and turn my Purolators into PureOnes.

It's thicker and more pleats. Can't see pinholes under the microscope. Looks similar or maybe the same as the Wix/NG media to me. It's just the PS in this part number where the media seems like the weak link.

Me too. It's a better known quantity to me. I just had these on my display shelf. Not to use.
