About a year ago I posted a used Proselect 21356. It had a dome end bypass much like the ST 7317. My wife and I bought an 2006 Pathfinder about a month ago and the Dodge dealer changed it with whatever oil and a Proselect 21356. I open this one up and the first thing i noticed was it has a much shorter media and didn't noticed a dome end bypass, but found the thread end bypass very much like the WIX or Napa Gold. So here's some pics. For all of you who wants a thread end by pass and a cheap quality filter, this would be a good pick up. The mileage is unknown, but i'm guessing it's 1,000 miles. I changed it out early because, i wasn't sure of the mileage and wanted to make sure the oil change is up to date.

Part of the deal with thread end bypass is it allows less room for the media. Busa had mentioned a similar point on a Napa Gold that he cut open recently.

That said, I thought I just read today on another thread today here, where the ProSelect was going to a combo valve. If I were buying the Proselect, I'd prefer the traditional thread end or dome end over the combo valve, but that's just my preference.

Thanks for the clear pics, filter looks fine.

Ok i'm a little confuse, the link shows a "combo valve" which is the bypass valve and the ADBV in one piece? The one i pulled off today had a seperate bypass valve and ADBV. The 21356 is not listed as one with the "combo valve"

I was very surprised to see that the NPS had gone to a combo valve. Maybe it's only some applications or perhaps they are gradually phasing it in.

Edit. Having read the link closer it appears only certain applications are affected...for now.

I just posted a couple days ago that I bought a ProSelect 21516 last week and it has the same thread end metal bypass as in the picture above...Used to be at the dome end I believe.
