Off a 2011 Subaru Impreza non turbo ej253 with only 47,000 miles (!) Glad to help this one along.

Unknown 5w30 out

Fram endurance fe7317 and m1 0w40 went back on/in

Thanks for the C&P. Never like seeing the tears, but I can't look away.

That is a tiny filter.
 
Media tear at wide pleat area
Somewhat surprising with such short pleats. The longer the pleats, the more stress they will have if they are widely spaced and start bending over from oil flow dP. Brittle weak media along with wide pleats is the main cause of torn pleats at the root where it meets the end caps.

The smaller filters tearing didn't happen until the Mann takeover :sneaky:

The longer ones (Purolator 14610, etc) were always torn, but the shorty cans (14612, etc) were more stout before Mann took over Wix

If there is a Napa nearby, consider the Full 2-OSB007
 
Not good, but seeing other anecdotes (many brands) with same coo, can't say I'm all that surprised. Ironically, this one even uses Wix traditional base end bypass piece. Likely why element so small. When my local Napa had semi annual 40% off Gold sale I bought and used many 'US' made (5)/7356 on Honda and Nissan. Posted all c&p, never an issue. No, longer have sale, so I've gone to other options now.

o_O It's ugly.. real ugly. No Mobil 1 filters for me that's for certain. Race to bottom for some of these companies. If they'd learn to keep their media uniform & even w/no wide spacing this could be prevented.

This is a NAPA “GOLD” not a M1 filter. Different construction also
