I just purchased a few Napa Gold (Wix) 7082 filters for my HHR. When I opened a couple of the boxes to check out the construction quality I was surprised to find filters from 2 different manufacturers. One was made in Poland, the other in Korea. The Korean filter looked like it was a better made filter. The media was thicker, loftier and more fiberous looking. The pleats were closer together (smaller pitch), and more uniform. The plastic frame was heavier and appeared more sturdy and well manufactured. The Polish filter's media looked a lot thinner and more like regular yellow paper. The plastic that made up the frame seemed a bit cheesey and rough. I'm not at all sure I'm going to use this Polish filter.

All Napa filters are made by Wix..
I've seen a lot of Wix canister filters with other name on them, Mann, Mahle, etc.. I'm sure they're just buying them out instead of having to mfgr them themselves.

EricF you are correct. Many of the cartridge filters seem to be made by a few different plants around the world. The Hengst USA is the best OEM filter that we can get probably. Otherwise I would use the made in Poland Wix filter, which has the best pleads I have ever seen. I could not find the end of the pleads and all pleads were perfectly spaced. My first oil changed I used a Champion Labs USA filter which ended being slightly hour glass shaped with a pencil sized hole in one spot and another pencil sized hole starting on the other side of the filter. Both the made in Bulgaria and made in China filters are junk, with the filters seemingly turned 2-4 wide pleads one way or the other, hour glassed in worse than my Champion Labs, and/or with a lot of holes.

From what I have heard about the Korean filters is that they perform which like a CL USA filter; three or four in a row will be perfect and the last one had some major problems.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. The purolator classic filters for the ecotec aren't anything to write home about either. All the aftermarket filters seem to be about the same quality.

Delco makes the only decent filter for this engine. They are about 4 dollars each at advance auto.

Nice! $11.45 from the dealer here. Makes the K&N at $14.95 look even better.
