My question is, how good is the cleaning power of the full syn? I know it is similar to synpower, but have never used anything but maxlife in my car, but see no reason for it really. I have been experiencing a bit of a vvt-i tick noise in my 2007 toyota yaris, so I figured I would step down to a 5w20, and a strong cleaning oil. I'm thinking of running Napa full syn w/ their gold filter for about 5k miles, since it ends up only being $23 total. Any thoughts?

Wasn't that car 5w-20 factory fill? With many short trips you'd be better served with a thin 0/5w-20 syn instead of maxlife. Maybe try some Kreen for the ticking.

It was a 5w30 ff, but it has been back spec'd for 5w20, just haven't really adjusted to it yet. I might try a 5w20, and if I like it, I may switch to a 0w20, depending on what I can get my hands on.

Also, where can I find Kreen? Is it usually available at WM? I tried their website and couldn't find it? Sorry, I'm sort of a noob at this.

I think that Valvoline HM oils are a better oil than Napa Synthetic.

You can get maxlife in 5w20 weight. Napa usually has weaker add pack. Btw new yaris states to use 5w30, but short tripper stay with 20.

There is no reason to have a sticky lifter if all you have used in your engine is Maxlife. Its one of the stronger PCMO cleaners. Use 5w20 grade if your vehicle was backspec'd to it. But we need more info , filter you usually use and so on. Napa Syn is Synpower with a slightly weaker add pack. Both oil are heavy in Sodium and are excellent at keeping the engine clean as long as conservative OCI is used.

I hope Napa Syn is good. I just ordered a case of 0w-20.

I'm not too confident of its cleaning ability, however. I think there are better oils for that. While its similar to Synpower, all indications are that it has a weaker add pack. There is a VOA comparing the two, but its a few years old.

Right now, Napa Syn is 17.50 for 5 quarts, on sale, so it may be worth trying it out. If you are really looking for a cleaner, I would go with MaxLife, as suggested earlier, PP/PU is well liked here, and so is M1-HM.

Before I stumbled across BITOG, I had good luck cleaning out the Kia with a series of short OCIs with Valvoline white bottle.

The choice is yours. You have a lot of choices and options.
