BITOG Member KCJeep sent me this filter a few weeks ago to test on my 07 F150, 4.2V6, 100K miles. The tire store where I had bought my tires from last year owed me a FREE OCI. On 7/6/13 I watched the tech do the OCI and upon startup the engine was quiet. As a precautionary measure I stopped at WM on my way home and bought a MC-FL400S filter and a qt. of ST 5W30 oil.
On the morning of 7/8/13 my engine ticked for about 2-3 seconds upon initial startup. 3 days later, upon startup, it ticked for almost 5 seconds. The next day I installed a P1 PL20195 oil filter (Thanx MBS500

) and no noise upon startup since then.
Here are the spec's on this filter followed by pics;

Will Fram Extended guard fit (old Fram Ultra in coffee can)? Or it is to wide? Wonder how it will perform regarding tick.
Multi-Air Fiats all tick and make diesel like sounds.
Bimmer is wisher quite after several seconds unless is very cold, in that case big german v8 roars until warm.
Both have cartridge, so no options to chose from regarding valve.
I need to listen to truck closely, but I think no tick there or chain rattle. I has tiny p1 on it right now.

The filter edge hits the raised section near the mounting base. This is a pic of the oil pump and filter mounting base, combined, that fits on the front drivers side of my engine.

It's the same size/thread as a PL20195.

The Napa 1315 looks to be a very well made filter. As I've said in the past, some engines just seem to be finicky about the filter used. By all rights with a double adbv, including one silicone adbv, the 1315 should well protect against startup rattle/noise. Weird.

Also interesting that a filter, Pure One PL20195 that because of it's efficiency rating some less than informed might say is too restrictive, has no start up rattle.

The thread below is of a Tacoma also using the PL20195 with thread end down orientation, also with good success.

No idea how the much smaller and different thread PL14610 came into the picture here. No relationship at all other than being another P1.

As for the OP, might need to change his signature based on this thread. One(or more) Filter(s), One OCI!

Great pics Blue, thanks for cutting and posting!

The construction looks great, as you'd expect from Wix. I am disappointed it didn't work well on your truck, but not terribly surprised as the Fram equivalent didn't play well with my Jeep either.

This is why you test things I guess, on paper I really thought these double ADBV filters would be the bomb on start up and they are not panning out to be.

I suspect the bypass settings may be higher that's the only reason I can think of for start up noise with them on the non-spec applications.

Oh Blue can you count the pleats? The STP had 49 by comparison, it looks like the Wix has fewer than that.

I guess I'm confused.

It looks to me like the filter has two bypass valves, not two ADBVs.

Am I somehow misunderstanding?

From the top, pictures #4 and #6 show a mechanical check valve or adbv in the centertube. It's designed to hold the oil in the centertube on engine shut down. The other adbv is of course the standard silicone adbv. Picture #3 shows Wix/Napa Gold thread end bypass.

The biggest surprise to me was when the tech started my engine right after the OCI, there was no rattle OR ticking noise! And, he did not pre-fill the filter.

It took 2 days for it to make any noise. I then drove it for another 2.5 days before it made any noise again. Strange, huh?
I was going to put the MC on but I wanted to see if the P1 would help. If not I was going to give the other 2 P1's away. (Thanx MBS500

In the next few days I will cut the filter open/in half to expose the 2nd ADBV.
To be continued...........

Ha true there is no limit!

I'm just as guilty. I am on my 3rd filter this OCI as I foolishy tried more experimenting the first 500 miles of the OCI (with two different filters that I thought would work) before giving up and spinning on another old tried and true FL-400s.

Apparently the only filters I can use on this cranky Jeep are Motorcrafts and Tough Guards. I just need to make peace with that and stop experimenting!

Blue, where's that pleat count??? Just looking at your pics I'm guessing around 40.

That's why I stopped at WM and bought the FL-400S, just in case the 1315 gave my engine DEATH RATTLE! Instead, my engine mimicked a TIMEX!

48, including the crimped pleat.
