Name this bug

[Quattro Pete]

I have quite a few of these attached to walls on my patio. They're less than an inch in length and they basically just sit in one position forever. I'm not even sure if they're even still alive or if this is just a leftover cocoon. I did see one of them climb once.

What are they?

Bagworm?
I should be a search engine. I wonder if yours is a related species.

Not sure what the proper scientific name is, but around here we call them bagworms. They are little brownish-colored worms in bag that is make of a substance they produce similar to silk or spider web. Around here they usually have needles from conifer trees on the outside of the bag. From what I have been told, they attach to the trees. Once attached, they feed off the tree, and then enter metamorphasis at that same spot. Not sure if this information is 100%, it is just what I was told. Not sure what exactly they turn into, either. Hopefully this will give you a start.

Yeah, it does look like it may be the bagworm or its cousin, but what does it feed on in my case? Paint?

They may just move to your patio to complete metamorphasis. Only thing I can think of.

) What kind of sad bug is a bagworm? The males have at least legs and get all the fun. They are born to breed and die. They spend most of their lives hanging around in a bag.

Male bagworm: "Let's breed!"
Female bagworm: "I can't MOVE!"

Sad...

i had those things all over my garage. the pressure cleaner brealy even memoved them. i ended up painting over a bunch to hide them.
