Dropped my son off at college this past weekend. Stopped at Cracker Barrel on the way home. I don’t remember exactly what they called this but it was some hillbilly version of shepherd’s pie. Inside was pot roast, mashed potatoes, carrots, celery and onions in gravy. It was all topped with shredded home fries. I only had a taste of the top for effect. The inside was darn good. Didn’t need a knife for the meat.

The crust looks good. Lethal but good. I would have a taste.

Popped through Covington, KY. Stopped at a butcher that dates to the 1860s-70s for some Goetta. It’s like scrapple which is available in NJ/PA, only coarser.

Haggis, grain sausage, and meatloaf are similar. They all started out as peasant foods that made use of meat stuff that was left. The Scots went one sheep's stomach too far. Never had Goetta but I think I'd put a fried egg on top.

The best I could find on short notice was a quesadilla this afternoon. The other options were BK, and Subway. No thanks!
