My neighbor's quiet lawn mower

Neighbor got an electric lawnmower last year. So far he likes it. Wishes the battery went a little further than it does, but if he keeps up with it, it works well. I like it - quieter and less to listen to, and he likes it for the same reasons (sells PPE for a major manufacturer in the area - knows a thing or two about hearing loss...)

What?? Yeah my hearing's shot.

Have people been mowing their whole lives without ear protection? I throw in a set of earplugs when I’m using pretty well anything with a motor.

I never wear ear protection when mowing. My Honda is much quieter than the music I listen to! :)

Probably not the best practice, but at 48 y.o. and many years of mowing/music I can still hear pretty well.

Until batteries are designed to last years and years I'm not interested in an electric mower. How long until a battery rebuild, will they even be available in 10 years? I'll stick with my Honda.

All of those new electric mowers are amazing and Stihl is among the best. If I were in the market for a cordless electric mower, Stihl would be near the top of the list. I probably would have bought a Stihl but for someone with a small, urban yard; I just couldnt see spending the $500 on a cordless Stihl when I could get a corded Greenworks for $150 or the Ryobi that I ended up with for $99. I love Stihl but I can live with a corded mower and keep the extra $400 in my pocket.
Nowdays, if youre looking at a push mower and you arent look at electric, youre living in the past. Gas is dead.

Theyre still less of a hassle than a gas mower. The batteries should last at least 5 years and they are replacable. To me, that beats the hassle of having to keep gas around; not to mention the oil changes, spark plug changes, air filter changes, dealing with gummed up carbs, recoil ropes breaking and the noise.
Theres is a reason why electric is taking over the OPE industry.

OMG! Isn't it against BITOG policy to complain about doing oil changes?

My advice to you, young fella, is to embrace change and keep up with modern times lest you become an old bitter man complaining about how things used to be. Technology is changing. Keep up with it.
Yep and unfortunately not for the better but yeah they are changing for sure. At least I’ll stay rich fixing it all lol.
