I am surrounded by barking dogs. Listening to the miniature weiner dog as I type this. The hyper bugger barks at anything.

Our houses are 30 feet apart here. It sounds like the thing is right outside my window.

I have talked to the most offensive neighbor four times (mostly at night when I should be sleeping but I can't because of the dog) to no avail.

Cops have drug dealers and terrorists to worry about, not barking dogs. Sometimes I just want to go over there and strangle that little beast.

There, that feels better...

There are ways for dogs to disappear, or get lose to get caught my the dog catcher. I've had a few neighbors with barking dogs so bad it makes life unbearable. I normally politely ask them to shut em up once or twice, well after that my patience wears out. I'm not condoning any violence so to speak, but most of these dogs aren't taken care of in the first place. I grew up on a farm and killing the neighbors dogs when they go after the cows/chickens whatever is a normal occurence, it happens both ways to make life more even so to speak. If you don't want to go that route, buy a big stereo with big speakers and when the dog starts barking.. you know what to do.

There has to be a better way to deal with this. Get them fined for noise violations or get them declared a public nuisance of something like that.

What I don't get is they live even closer to the dogs than you do. Doesn't it bother them?

You are right the dogs can't help it, now. But if they were trained properly and well taken care of this wouldn't happen.

We have the same problem. I was thinking getting those ultra-cheap package of 30 "polish" sausages (that don't taste like sausage, but rather fatty salt sticks) and feed them to the dogs...2 of them every night until they double their weight. They won't have energy to bark.

poisoning the dogs is probably a pretty good offense punishable with jail time if you ever got caught.

you can do what i did as a safe and legal alternative.
i had this jerk neighbor with her barking lab and german shepard. they bark at anything, day and night, all the time. they never shut up. it drove me crazy. id be in my yard and her dogs bark all day and run up and down the fence.

funny thing, she drives an animal control truck. cant seem to control her own animals though.

so i called code enforement on her. turns out in my city we have laws against barking dogs. if youre dog barks you must make the dog shut up or you get big fine each day that it barks.

so now her dogs dont bark anymore. she probably had to go to training school with them or something. if she ever gives me crap for this or tries to get revenge, ill call code enforement on her again. shes got alot of code violations such as illegal imported trees growing in her backyard, darelect vehicle in the back yard, farm animals on the peoperty (ducks and some other water foul) etc.

but i dont really care about the trees or broken vehicle or the ducks. i just want the dogs to keep quiet.

my other neighbor, the same thing but with those taco bell dogs. 6 of them as a matter of fact. they bark all the time and wouldnt shut up. a call to code enforement solved that real quick.

First, I want to say how disappointed I am in suggestions of harming the dogs. The problem is the owners. Likely unpleasant jerks in general. If you can't get the authorities to do anything, likely you will just have to live with it. By the way, what are they barking at? If it is other dogs running loose or cats prowling around, have you complained to the people letting them roam?

In general our society places a low value on peace and quiet. People seem to expect any form of entertainment, the boom boxes on wheels, noisy motorcycles, ultra lights, etc. to be tolerated no matter how much noise they make. At least dogs can only be heard about a half a block. I can hear motorcycles when the nearest road in that direction is a half a mile away. The best thing is a light plane. If you are rich enough, you can destroy the peace and quiet of half the county with your toy. The dogs aren't consuming foreign oil like some other nuisances.

The owners give me the "You can hear that?"

They must be deaf...

A loud motorcycle a half-mile away is white noise.

A weiner dog 30 feet away yapping at the wind is annoying.

The lab on the other side of me is generally barking at the back door because he wants in and the owner won't let him (probably doesn't want to hear the barking!).

Some times, after about 2 hours straight of listening to the lab bark, I have to go over and ask the owner to bring it in because it is driving my wife nuts. They'll still leave it out barking for hours.

The lab is on the kitchen side of our house. The weiner dog is on the bedroom side. We get stereo...

Yes, there are any number of ways to kill the dogs (and I fantasize about them often). I just don't care to go to jail because someone else is stupid and inconsiderate.

Yea..see your township Code Enforcement Officer. Laws vary from Township to Township. If you get no satisfaction from the Code Officer, ask to see the portion of the code relevant to dogs, noise, etc. There will be something on it.You may ultimately record the barking provide times etc. Good luck. We had a neighbor with a dog that did not bark. Then they got another one that barked. And that one taught the second one how to bark

I now how you feel. It's truly annoying.

Now we have a neighbor on the other side who has 2 barking dogs

Its not up to the action level yet though.

Funny thing, One of my neighbors asked me about my barking dog a few months ago. It's funny cuase my dogs are in the house most of the time and this happened to be at like 10:00 at night.

I of coarse oppologiezed and said that if they were barking I would have brought them inside. So I must not have been at home (my wonderful wife or kid was probably here) and they don't pay attention to crap like that, cause I hate barking dogs, including my own.

If I catch them in the back barking I'll usually go see what it is (though it's usually someones punk kid playing with them at the fence, which really ticks me off cuase they are encouraging my dogs to bark, and I wish those people would keep their kids on a leash.

Go over and open their gate, dogs don't bark when they're happily exploring the neighborhood. Done it multiple times, even have unhooked the leash to let them free.

I just got over a big feud with my neighbours over their mini schnausers. First thing in the morning, all day and last thing at night, bark bark. All we asked is a solid fence so they don't see us and bark AT us. A lot of ** later (see my post about "elections") they put the dogs behind a fence and installed some pine trees. We had to go to a zoning laywer and complain that they had an illegal kennal, more than 4 dogs. There were like 9 at one time. I also started blowing an air horn at the owners ever time I saw them. My wife also sued over a bite from a Grt Dane they had. The guy ran for Twp Supervisor and the wife ran for Zoning Secretary and lost. My wife is now on the Zoning Board and our guy won the Supervisor election. They finally gave up and don't F with us anymore. Too much ** to post, let's just say we hammered them. I guess the 2 funniest moments is when we found their internet ads for selling puppies and copies of their 7 dog licences, after they said in writing they don't sell dogs and have only 4. The other moment was before the election, at the Township Meeting, when my wife challenged the guy on the fact he worked for a big real easte developer (our other neighbour) and cannot honestly represent the residents because of that. Because the guy only does yard-work or whatever, he denied working for the developer, when pressed on that point he said "we trade favours, I do favours for him, he does them for me" HA!, I retorted, under the table deals!!! He did not come to the next meeting, the day before the election, and lost by 8 votes! We said, "if you dogs could vote, maybe you would have won"!

I have a neighbor that keeps his Lab penned up in his garage 24/7. Our houses are very close together and this thing barks constantly. Luckily my bedroom is on the other side of the house. It's still annoying especially when this thing decides to bark all day. If I can hear it next door, how loud is it in there own house? They must be deaf!

Hahahahahaha..a classic. Best idea ever. Who could complein about anyone playing "Christmas Music:

Korean, LOL! I know what you mean! Especially with the boom box perched outside their house with an AM radio station blaring so loud, the sound is almost completely distorted.

Al, It's NOT Christmas Music, it's Holiday Music.

MOVE" Get a place where you have distance from your neigbors. If you can hear these dogs barking all of the time then you don't have enough room between you and the neigbor. If it wasn't a dog it would be something else. If it's not illegal for them to have a barking dog and it bothers you, then you did not do your homework before you moved in.

Well, you're entitled to your opinion. Fortunately (in my opinion) that's not the law in most places. Nuisance law, for the most part, comes around to the old thing about "your right to swing your arm ends at my nose". Neither dogs, nor their owners, have a right to torment their neighbors, intentionally or otherwise. I'd go throuh animal control first, and if they don't produce results, talk to a lawyer about filing a nuisance action seeking an order compelling the dog owner to abate the nuisance. If/when the dog owners fails to comply, the daily penalty for contempt of court might just motivate them some.

And what is it with labs -- are they the stupidest dogs on the planet or what??? Our neighbors have one, and he barks endlessly at nothing, pretty much from the moment their car leaves the driveway until they return. They're nice people, so we're working them the nice way. And, FYI Pitbull, we moved in first!
