I am going to copy my last report and add the latest numbers...

Part One: The basics

2003 Ford Taurus
Date of sample: Feb 17th, 2006
Total miles on vehicle at time of sample - 38229
Miles since last oil and filter change- 6851
( 4,624 highway miles, 2,227 city miles)
E-core filter part number used ST 3600
Type of oil used: Mobil 1 synthetic 0W-20

( this sample had more city miles on it than the previous test-- 32.5% city driving, last time 20.2%. I also had the air filter changed 1,704 miles before the sample was taken--Ford Motocraft put in by the dealer--hey it was free..lol)

Part Two: Oil Analysis

I have had five consecutive oil analysis done on my engine. If you do oil analysis it is best when you compare your current result versus your previous results to get an indication of what is going on within your engine.

WearCheck USA has done all of my analysis for this engine. So the testing methods are consistent. The sampling methods are inconsistent because I have used different locations to change my oil, which means different mechanics. So that can have some of an effect on the oil analysis results.

There are three categories for their test:
Wear, Contaminant, and Fluid. Tow of the three categories came back "normal", one "marginal".
I will list them individually and show the previous sample result first, then the current reading last. The numbers are generally in PPM ( parts per million):

Contamination:
Silicon- 27--24--27
Potassium- 3.3.--0.0--0.0
Sodium- 6.1--6.8--6.2
Fuel (%)- less than 2.0-- less than 2.0-- lees than 2.0
Glycol- none–none--none
Water- less than 0.1– less than 0.1- less than 0.1
Soot–0–0--0
Sulfation–22–0-127
Nitration–16–95-115

Oil Condition:
Boron–124–137-137
Barium–0.0–0.0-0.0
Calcium–2562–3188-3402
Magnesium–17–18-21
Molybdenum–72–84
Sodium–6.1–6.8-6.2
Phosphorus–780-977-945
Sulfur–1981–2335-2522
Zinc–922–1072-1104
Visc@100 C–9.75–10.28-10.7
Oxidation–39–0-320
TAN–( not tested) –5.67--4.28

Wear:
Iron–8.4–8.4-8.6
Nickle–1.3–0.9-1.0
Chromium–0.8–0.8-1.1
Titanium-- 0.2–0.2-0.1
Copper– 5.8–11-11
Aluminum–3.5–3.8-3.3
Tin–0.0–0.0-0-0
Lead–24–27-32
Silver–0.0–0.0-0.0

There are bar graphs on the back of the report for Iron, Aluminum, Copper, Lead, Silicon to chart the total testing. There is also a particle count chart which I can not duplicate. But at 10 microns the chart shows 14,000 ppm’s, at 20 microns the chart shows 700 ppm’s. (this test, 10 microns 14,000 ppm's...20 microns 600 ppm's)

As for the TAN testing, I had that done two samples ago. That report after going 9,198 miles between oil changes came back at 3.60. Which is near oil breakdown. The next test is 5.67 which is well within the safety range of the oil. (This test 4.28 which the lab considers marginal)

I've got the filter if someone wants to cut it open..

Mel,

Even your old Turaus had higher then normal Lead/Pb readings. Do you HAMMER your ride???? You're 2 or 3X my readings @ 12k.

The odds of you getting two Taurui in a row with bearing issues is too much of a coincidence.

pssst!, Mel ..err..this is the filter forum ..UOA is down a bit...

I think it's the labs equipment..i'm not worried unless there is a pattern of increased wear.

As I don't change my own oil..

...sampling can be effected by the person taking the sample. Mine can't be uniform because I always get a different lube bay person to do my oil change.

I may only keep this car another year, two max..so it should last that long..

I can see that your road time would kinda limit your desire for automotive maintenance. It would be far too often. I'm getting tired of the dirty fingernails (yes, I could surely wear gloves) and the toting the oil barge to my buddy's waste oil burner tank.

You should post this just for FYI on the other stuff (TAN, OXI, etc.) that the guys would surely like to see. I'll reject the metal numbers as being lab bias. I see your point with the two to three year limit on your usage. You're taking reasonable care of it.

Gary, it's in the Filter section because Mel is....the "Filter guy"

Oh and btw..no I don't hammer down on the throttle..don't like to visit with State troopers or City coppers neither. That's why gawd invented cruise control.
