I just switched to a new insurance company.
They are kind of old fashioned, they are a 100 year old company in central texas.
I saved a bunch of money, and they offer great coverage and service, but they do not offer towing dispatch services.
The way it works, is I pay for towing out of pocket, then they reimburse. No problem.
So my wife got into an accident in the Matrix this morning. Car was drivable but I didn't want her driving it. I met her at the accident her car was hit in the front and the rear.
I decided to use the HONK app on my iPhone to get a tow to a body shop 4 miles away.
I was quoted $90 on a flat bed. Thats fine.
They said 60 minutes, they took the GPS coordinates of where I was.
So, 90 minutes rolls by, I call the driver that they dispatched. Driver has no idea who I am and where I was.
I tell the driver where I am, they are rude they say oh well it will be another 60 minutes.
At this time, it has been 2.5 hours at the side of the road.
I drove the car to the body shop.
Called Honk customer service twice, the 1800 number they gave hung up on me when I wanted to talk to someone. Then I got a pre recorded message saying that the office was closed (at 11am central time), and that I should call back at 6am tomorrow.
So, I come home and they emailed me a bill for $75.
I fire back an email and they call me. They say too bad I did not cancel they had already dispatched a driver and I owe them 75 dollars.
Now I get to play the fun game of disputing a charge on my credit card.
Avoid this app guys, and if anyone can recommend a reputable app for getting towing services dispatched let me know.
