My mazda3 is a 3i with a 2.0L engine. Here are the oil filters I've collected. They range from 4 to 6 dollars.

From left to right they are:

1. Ultra-8 Nippon Filter 361-2413
2. Ultra-8 Nippon Filter 361-1313
3. NAPA Gold 1348
4. Current Mazda OE LF05-14-302A
5. Toyota 90915-YZZD1
6. Toyota 90915-YZZD3
7. Current Motorcraft FL-400s

The current Mazda OE looks like Motorcraft FL-910 but with more thread on the center hole, which I like to have at least 4 threads. The current FL-400s has 3.5 threads.

90915-YZZD3 is currently on engine. I like the Toyota filter for (a) D3 is a longer version than the D1 (b) they all have round-cross-section O-rings. Conventional square-cross-section O-rings have shown some seepage in the past.

I like the OE, the NAPA Gold as well. Don't like the Ultra-8 filters because they have less/small holes on base plate. Did not like the FL-400s simply because it has only 3.5 threads on center hole. Otherwise, this is a perfect oversized filter.

How did you cross reference to see that all these filters would work? Im interested in getting a slightly larger oil filter as my car holds 4.8 quarts and would really like it to hold 5 so I dont have tons of 80% percent empty bottle on my shelf lol.

I heard a rumor they work better when put on the car.......

Just messing with ya. I would have a lovely collection if I didn't use/squash and recycle my old ones.

Maybe "collection" is the wrong word. I do intend to use them. The YZZD3 is currently on engine. I do 6 month/5000mile change, so essentially twice a year. I try hard not to be obsessed on the oil filter......but you know how it goes ;-)

The Toyota ones are crossed from Denso website.
The Ultra-8 ones are made in China, imported by Altrom (a Canadian company?), can be found at NAPA.

Motorcraft FL-400s was from internet forums, like BITOG. This is the newest (shorter) version, so it fits well. I've used the FL-400s on the Mazda3 over the winter.

Correcto! The new Mazda OE (LF05-14-302A)looks identical to Purolator Classic 10241. The previous version LF10-14-302 (from dealer) is slightly longer, no ADBV, carboard end plate can be seen from the oil inlet holes. The Chinese made ultra-8 filter has ADBV, can is very strong, is slightly fatter and longer. But there are only 6 small inlet holes which might restrict flow.

BTW, anyone know where to buy an inexpensive pipe cutter to cut open the use filters? Thanks.
