I have a 2003 WRX that makes a good deal of power. With a bit under 20K miles I decided to change gear oils. Upon the recommendation of Pablo I became a PC and bought Amsoil 75/110 SVT. After driving an approx. 40 mile loop around las vegan on a 95 degree day. Upon returning to my house I grabbed my Raytek infrared thermometer and measure the diff cover from the edge of my bumper ( about 24" away ) and it measured 159°f. After installing the SVT I drove the same loop with driving as close to before as possible, returning to find the temp at 102° from the same distance, and aimed at the same location.
If this is any indication of the quality of the rest of Amsoil's products, from now on I will be a dedicated Amsoil fan.

Thank you Pablo.

Gotta love Amsoil!

WHY don't they market their oils better???

WHY don't they use real life tests like that and others in commercials??

What is wrong with their Marketing Department??

Nothing wrong with Amsoil's marketing Dept. If you are asking why we don't sell the oil like Castrol or Mobil or whomever, man I hope not. Those silly commercials, straight from their marketing dept, btw, are terrible!!

Real life tests? Non-standardized test? Man - the khrap Amsoil gets for running standardized tests is bad enough.

Amsoil is a small company. However the growth is at a fairly good clip. I don't see that changing soon. However, Amsoil does listen to dealers and customers. And they roll out new test results after a bursts of new products, which is right about now.

The reason for my post is that I want more people to use Amsoil and am puzzled why it does not "Trump" most other oil sales in America.

The logical brain in me gets frustrated when something is so obviously better, why don't most people go with it.

I love their product,

use it in more & more applications I have like my Truck, my 140hp Outboard & the Lower Unit. I buy from a guy who's been there from almost day 1!

I also want to put in in my Front & Rear diff, flush the old Dex/Mobil 1 mix out of the tranny and put in all Amsoil.

Heck, I live 1.5 hours from their Plant & I wanna quit my Engineering job and move up there to run experiments & develop better products for them!!

Your test while interesting is not really scientific. Its not double blind and you compared used gear oil to new Amsoil gear oil. I think Amsoil also makes great products and they are in most of my vehicles. But to be fair one would need to compare Amsoil gear oil against other new gear oils and then one would need to standardize the driving so its not tilted towards one gear oil (basically you as the drive should not know what gear oil you are testing). If your original gear oil was not synthetic then having Amsoil beat it is not much of a win for Amsoil.

Regardless of what was in there or how old it was, the new fluid removed 57 degrees from my rear diff.
So even if it is not a grand slam for Amsoil, it surely is a win for changing fluid, and using a good product. Even on a low mileage car.
I had no intentions of creating a " scientific " test, it was strictly curiosity.

Amsoil had a slow start, not really going until 1972.
Compare to:
Amoco 1889
Arco 1866
Ashland 1924
Chevron 1879
Conoco 1875
Exxon 1882
Mobil 1866
Pennzoil 1889
Shell 1833
Texaco 1897
BP 1886
Elf 1941
I know that right before I retired from Shell 3 years ago, Shell, Pennzoil and Quaker State were all losing market share.
An Amsoil employee says Amsoil has seen double digit growth in each of the last 20 years.
Amsoil now has over 1.5 million accounts, including catalog customers, Preferred Customers, Dealers, Commercial Accounts and Retail Accounts.
Amsoil starts most accounts one oil change at a time. Over time these grow. Most other companies have a huge advertising budget and a few sales guys signg huge initial contracts. Amsoil provides personalized service. Every customer has a Dealer. Most other companies provide an information line.

Amsoil is commited to maintaining their Dealer network and not allowing chains with more than 12 stores to sell. Many other companies compete against each other at large chain stores.

So Amsoil got a late start and uses a very different business model. Amsoil is now invited to the industry motor oil and filter meetings, sitting with the big boys, many who have told of their admiration of Amsoil. Some of the big boys are worried their 3,000 mile oil and filter changes strategy is in jeopardy. Amsoil started with 1 product and now provides more synthetic oil types and filter types than any company in the world.

I think their business model is working just fine.

I love the Amsoil ATF in my car, shifts nice and smooth, much smoother than before using the OEM ATF. I'll probably order some more sometime next year

Most people who use Amsoil only report positive things. As long as Amsoil's #1 priority is making the best oils, they will continue to grow.

They are committed to an outdated MLM scheme that limits their growth and availability.

I like Amsoil and use many of their products. Many of the products are "best in class" and innovative. Many of the dealers (including those on this board) are knowledgeable about the products and good business people but I'm still turned off by the MLM system. (also not too keen that they are pushing vitamins now too :smirk )

I was lucky to have a local dealer who operated an actual store front that made it easy to get what I wanted whenever I needed it. He stocked every product ready-to-go. Now that I no longer have that easy connection I am not using as many of their products.

Pablo and Greg - You need to tell Amsoil HQ. That they should be pushing the enviromental benefits of extended drains. Could bring them a whole new target demographic that shops at Wildoats, reads MotherJones and is willing to spend $ for quality. (probably buys more vitamins too! )

For those of you who would like to purchase Amsoil locally at a store front like MonumentOiler, just contact a site sponsor with your favorite, smaller than 12 chain store, and what products you would like stocked, let them know. Or if they have no interest, let me know. Or you can contact a site sponsor and get in a few days delivered to your house.

I don't see how there availability is limited. I can order any of their products from the comfort of my computer and it will show up at my door in two days. I just always order extra so I will have what I need if I need to add a quart or two.

As long as you don't have to deal with a dealer who cares about their buisness model.

I have to agree with the vitamin comment. That definatly turns me off. I just ignore that.

I dunno about Amsoil being more successful by being store only. I think they would suffer form Royal Purple-osis. Not really all that covenient, hard to find ALL the products and battling daily for no shelf space.

I don't sell vitamins, so I to consider it a bit silly. But the vits are a different division, not under the Amsoil name. I guess they keep Al healthy, so he tries to make a buck on the deal.

There are 2 NAPA stores here that sell AMSoil and stock many products. I'm looking forward to buying some ATF. I'd buy from a sponsor but I only need a lil bit. I believe in buying the best possible fluids for apps that the service interval is longer, not like motor oil, which I consider "disposible".

I have been using Amsoil for about 4 years in every vehicle I have. Every thing that ive tried has done exactly what they say it will.In the past I used Redline and Mobil 1. The one thing that attracted me to Amsoil, is that they actually tell you what standard test that they run. They also will tell you what lab ran the test. Most others advertise tests that are just specific to there product. Tests that no one else heard of.
