Decided to check the fluid level in my 24 Toyota Tundra with 17K miles. It drives fine so I thought after serving it. I noticed a jerking feeling at light throttle mainly in traffic with the ac on. Instead of wasting time and a bunch of money when the say it’s normal. I took it upon myself to do it. To my surprise it was just over a qrt low. Drained 4 qrts and filled it with 5 qrts of AMSOIL Signature Series blue cap atf. Got it to temperature 105 degrees. A little bit came out. Added another half a qrt till it came out as a stream. Wow it feels great now. No more jerky feeling with the ac on. AC on and off feels the same now. In going to wait till 30Kand do it again. For 17K and no towing the fluid looked dark but had some red in it.

I would have stuck with OEM fluid with a $60,000plus truck under warranty. But that's just me......

They would have to prove it other wise.

Yep-true. Except I would have never taken that offramp to begin with. Can't speak for Toyota-but plenty of GM Tech's (on the boards I frequent) have stated that before an engine rebuild oil analysis have been ordered-it's not frequent but it has happened.

Fluid level low or high is believable. An OEM using a fluid that isn't appropriately spec'd for the application seems dubious. Bet if you'd just added the quart of OEM you'd get the same result. Since you're switching might as well do a spill & fill again now and get the percentage of Amsoil up around 75%. (y)

That’s the plan in about 10K. I’ve had good luck with Amsoil ATF’s and Valvoline Maxlife.

I know. Rolling the dice baby.

My 24 Tacoma has a wide range of shifts - from smooth to jerky to the weekly “thud.” I’ve considered similar, maybe with a splash of lubeguard, possibly with a good look to see if an inline filter is possible when the warranty is up.

Not sure why. WS is good fluid. It is true synthetic based, made by

Even earlier Tacomas had low fluid from the factory.

I didn’t want to crack this thing open and look, but I guess next time I’m under it for an oil change, this should be done. (I added some fancy skid plates to it, which is fine with normal intervals, but they are an inconvenience for frequent access).

Make sure you get a blue tooth reader and use the car scanner app pro. It was like 8 dollars for the app.

Pretty sure Toyota is notorious for low factory fill. My inverter coolant is still below the low line on my 2020 Rav4 Hybrid.

Regardless, WS is such a bland spec, almost anything will work in its place.
