Agreed. Rotella, Delvac....etc.

I usually put customers into AMO Amsoil 10w/40 with high zinc and phosphorus. Usually these cars have clearances with their rebuilt motors to utilize a 40# oil.

+1

Royal Purple 10W-30 SL at WalMart for $ 8.00/qt.

I think 10W-40's have too much VI's...and with a synthetic you don't need all the extra HP robbing viscosity.

K&N or Wix oil filter.

A handy oil at the local walmart?- Mobil 1 15w50 or HDEO
A botique oil?- the Amsoil 10/40 with the high z & p

Diesel oil or the "boutique oils" like Brad Penn, Royal Purple, Redline, etc are what I'd use in a muscle car or hot rod that had a FLAT TAPPET cam in it. If it used a ROLLER CAM, I'd use any quality synthetic SM API oil in it. Most of your typical street/strip roller cams don't need all that extra ZDDP like a stiffly sprung flat tappet does.

I would use Valvoline VR-1 or the Joe Gibbs Hot Rod conventional oil. Rotella may be OK for a quick change but I really do not like all the detergents in any of the HD/diesel oils.

I own a good amount of original classic/muscle cars and I used to use Rotella and additives but finally settled on VR-1 and Joe Gibbs Hot Rod oil with no additional additives needed.

I own a 1968 Barracuda Formula 340-S, auto. (orig. flat tappet cam).
127k on original motor.
Been using Valvoline VR-1 (10w30) for past 2 seasons...
April-Nov, depending on weather on L.I., NY.
Heard about Brad Penn, checked their site and was thinking of
switching this spring.
Should I?
What oil is best for my car?...seems like ZDDP claims are not always accurate.
What is correct?...10w30, 10w50, 20w50...
Car sits in unheated (detached) garage all winter
and is out spring to late fall.
Also, what should oil pressure be at idle?
Thanks to all.
