Mt. Everest shrinks after quake

Everest shrunk but the area around it rose 3 feet VERTICAL!

Amazing...Everest is more than 29,000 feet tall and they claim they can detect that it shrunk about an inch.

My ranch near San Simeon experienced about an 8" slip along a mountain ridge but I don't know if one side shrunk or the other heaved. About 2 miles away on the highest peak a garage sunk 4' trapping the cars inside. No newer houses had more than superficial damage but the unreinforced concrete ones broke up and danced around like crazy. The Heart Castle built in the 20's had almost no damage. It was only a 6.6 magnitude though.

It is amazing there was not far more fatalities, and far more damage, from so much rock being lifted up, on average, a meter.

Global warming ....

I imagine raising all of that 3 feet has to use a MASSIVE amount of energy. No way I'd want to be there!

If the sea level rises the peak, relative to said ocean water, will be even shorter.

Now all the old guys who "used to" hike Everest can brag about how it was worse back in the day.
