Can someone tell me what the difference is between group 3+ and group just Group 3? The Motul tech guy said their 8100 series is group 3+ base stocks

Not an exact classification - indicates more severe cracking for tracking that It’s closer to higher group performance …

Motul says many things and after need to fix it's words and advertising like in Germany.
Depend on which 8100, basically not, most 8100 are good G3 with little G3+ sometimes.

It’s not an official designation but some will unofficially call GTL base oils group 3+ since they are closer in performance to that of a PAO base oil.

"Group III+ advantages over conventional Group III are that it offers lower cold cranking simulator (CCS) viscosity and Noack volatility, better pour point and oxidative stability and can be a partial or full alternative to PAO in some applications.1"

As already noted, a marketing term just like Chevron’s Group II+ base stocks. It doesn’t designate anything new (only the API could do that) since the performance still falls within the limits of the current API designation for the Group.

who calls them premium? motul or us? is mobil 1 esp premium?
Lol, this answer is just perfect.
So Motul 8100 is more than double the price if Mobil 1, PUP etc. and I don't remember seeing PUP brag about having boron esters which helps it performa amazing etc., whereas Motul oil will have all those shiny amazing things mentioned in its description. So i just presumed they were premium oil, along with LiquiMolly. Boy i was wrong

Motul and Liqui Moly do carry some products with more expensive base stocks and formulations than say Mobil 1 or PUP. It also depends on the definition of premium. More expensive does not automatically mean premium. I think the people at Supertech think they sell a "premium" oil. LOL!

The key is the SDS.

If the Chemical name has "Fischer - Tropsch, heavy C18-50-branched, cyclic and linear (and its corresponding CAS/EC number), then it's Group 3+.

Most of the 8100 line is just hydrocracked petroleum oil, Group 3, except the 8100-Power has Group 4 in it.
