Yeah, I guess ... I mean cutting open an oil filter with a special tool meant to cut open oil filters with, I guess anyone would conclude that the operator made the media tear ... even on the opposite end that the filter was cut open.
It's so obvious now that all 57 filter that tore were all caused by monkeys cutting open those filters ... but everyone else in the world that cuts open oil filter must have oil filter cutting certificates except for BITOG members. Yeah, it's all so clear now! Thanks, I can sleep better now.
Stalin once said, "The death of one man is a tragedy; one million is a statistic." The things you think of while watching grown men in absolute panic over a FEW failed filters.

Absolutely illogical.
Puralator filters are made to Puralators specifications and tested by Puralator. Motorcraft Filters and made to Ford's specification and tested by Ford. I've seen a few FL-400S & FL-500S filters cut open and all have looked good.
Interesting, how many miles on those filters? I have several UAO's that show low silicone & insolubles using a FL-500S. I don't think paper media should be used for 10K miles, but should be fine at 5K or less.
here's the thing on tears. Are they a good thing? No. Are they catastrophic? No. Have numerous unknown tears undoubtedly happened to many of us over the years. Yes, so I don't worry about it.
